Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s blog post is about embracing the energy of Mermaids, Selkies, and Swan Maidens. Now that we are in June, I thought this was a fun topic, exploring how to embrace the energy of three types of Watery Feminine Faeries! As usual with these types of posts, I will explore each of these Water Faeries in their own individual section. Without further ado, let’s look at Mermaids, Selkies, and Swan Maidens!
MERMAIDS
~You can embrace the energy of Mermaids by actively communing with Water on a daily basis. You can do this with Water Enchanting, Bath Magick, and Mermaid Meditations. Something as simple as Enchanting your Water before you drink it or Enchanting your Water as you make tea, makes a huge impact on your connection to the Mermaids! I just have to mention that a truly beautiful way to connect with Mermaids is to donate time or money to aid in Ocean cleanups. Obviously, another great way to embrace Mermaids is to be near Water, especially the Ocean! However, two of the simplest ways to connect with the Mermaids, especially if you are landlocked like me, are to perform Bath Magick Rituals and to be inspired by Mermaids in your personal style. Bath Magick Rituals are a great way to enjoy being immersed in the Water and commune with the Water and the Mermaids while being submerged in the element! When it comes to style inspiration, this could be to wear your hair long, with lots of beachy waves, or to wear clothing inspired by Mermaids. Honestly, as long as you are full of love for the Mermaids, even the smallest of acts can be a way to grow closer to them!
SELKIES
~You can connect with Selkies in a similar way, as they are also Oceanic Water Faeries. So, I will not repeat things from above in depth, but being near Water, Enchanting Water, and Bath Magick all apply to Selkies also. However, working with the energy of Seals is one of the best ways to connect with Selkies specifically! This is because Selkies are the Seal Maidens, who can transform from their Seal form to their humanoid form by putting on or removing their Seal Skins. In their folklore, when their Skins are stolen, they may be forced to marry the man who stole them, as they are now stranded on land. When the Selkie found her Skin, she would leave her unwanted husband and return to the Sea. The fact that Selkie connection to Seals allows us to commune with them means meditations with Seals, or even decorating your altar with Seal figurines, are ideal suggestions. Once again, I want to remind you that even the simplest things can aid in building a connection!
SWAN MAIDENS
~Yet again, connecting with Swan Maidens can involve similar activities to the other two Watery Faeries discussed above, Bath Magick, Enchanting Water, and being near Water. However, working with the energy of Swans can aid in communing with Swan Maidens specifically. Much like Selkies, Swan Maidens can transform from their Swan to humanoid form by putting on or removing an item of clothing; in the case of Swan Maidens, it is their Swan Feathered Cloak. Also similar to Selkies, if their Cloak was stolen, they would have to marry the man who held the Cloak. However, the Swan Maiden would go on to fall in love with her husband, and he would prove his love to her by following her when she fled with her Cloak, and showing how true his devotion was! I suggest Swan meditations and decorating your altar with Swan imagery to connect more deeply. I also suggest spending time at Lakes (or other bodies of Water in your area) where actual Swans reside to connect with their energy, to listen to the music of Swan Lake, and even watch the movie The Swan Princess!
~I hope you have enjoyed this short exploration of Mermaids, Selkies, and Swan Maidens. What Watery Feminine Faeries do you feel most connected with? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
