Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s blog post is about Sacred Bodies of Water that we can interact with, even if we are unfortunately living the lives of landlocked Mermaids! With the weather being warm, it is the ideal time to discuss the Sacred Bodies of Water, as we can finally truly enjoy outdoor waters.
LAKES
~When we think of Lakes, the first Faery Woman that comes to mind is the Arthurian Lady of the Lake. The Lady of the Lake also appears as Gwragedd Annwn (the Welsh Lake Maidens) and in the Welsh tale of the Lady of Llyn y Fan Fach! In the latter tale, the Lady of the Lake is pursued by a human paramour who has to travel to her home beneath the Lake (a Faeryland) and meet with her father and sisters, being tested by having to figure out which amongst identical sisters is the Faery Woman he loves. That is how he wins her hand in marriage! Of course, he must also make a promise, which is to never hit his wife three times, for doing so (even accidentally) would end their marriage. Those of us who are learned in Faerylore know that this did not end well for the husband, as we see similar things in many Faery stories! So, keeping in mind how much Faerylore is connected with Lakes, being near the Lake will allow us to commune with the energies of all of the different Faery Women and Faery Queens who reside in this lovely watery area.
RIVERS
~Now, many will tell you of how dangerous River Spirits are, and they definitely can be if you disrespect Nature. However, I have had the pleasure of developing a great bond with a local River Spirit when I lived with my parents, as the place we moved to when I was nineteen was right near a River. I spent many hours sitting out on the bench next to the River, communing with her lovely energy and the Fae folk and Nature Spirits that inhabited the Trees near the River’s edge. I would read, write, and draw out on the bench next to the River. It was also an ideal place to meditate and really center myself! So, yes, I developed a deep bond with my local River Spirit in the years I lived so close to her, and she was so supportive and loving. At the end of the day, we just each must take the time to get to know our Nature Spirits and approach them with love and respect, and more often than not, we will find that they do not wish us harm! In fact, my local River Spirit was full of love and just wanted recognition and for people to not litter or pollute her waters.
FOUNTAINS
~Finally, we will look at Fountains. Fountains or Wells are Sacred Waters, but there are different types of Wells; some are connected to Natural Springs, others are man-made. Whether or not these Watery Wells are Natural or man-made, we can commune with the energy of the waters within to learn more about our Natural landscape! By taking time to be near Fountains or Wells, we can also commune with the energy of the Well Maidens and Ladies of the Fountains, as they are Faery Women and Faery Queens who tend the Sacred Waters. It is also beautiful to begin tending your own Well or Fountain in honor of all of the Faery Women and Faery Queens who also tend these waters. For example, Melusine and Laudine are famed Faery Queens who tend Wells! Another great way to connect with Fountain Waters is to Scry the Water within the Fountain or Well.
~I hope you have enjoyed this post looking at Sacred Waters. What is your favorite Sacred Body of Water? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
