Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. As today is my fourth Wedding Anniversary with my husband, Andrew, I have decided to do a reflection on some ways I have embraced the energy of the May Queen in my life over the years! After all, I certainly was working very deeply with the energies of the May Queen when I celebrated my Wedding Day.
Those who have been reading this blog from the beginning just might remember that I wrote a blog post about my Wedding right after our Wedding Weekend. However, as it has been years, and my readership has grown so much, I figured I would do another reflection on the memories from my Wedding in honor of our Anniversary, as well as some of what has happened since!
Now, I had always wanted to get married in the middle of the Woods, as I had never had any interest in an indoor Wedding. So, I was delighted to have my Aunt help us find a local Camp near her that held events. As it was a Summer Camp, it was in the middle of the Woods, and it would not be in use for another month or two after our May Wedding, making it an ideal place to hold our Ceremony! My husband, our friend who was helping with set-up, and I were able to drive up and spend the night in one of the cabins at the Camp the night before the Wedding to make sure we could set up in the morning. Andrew and I also stayed in the Cabin after the Wedding, which meant we did not have to worry about driving home late after all of the celebrations!
My Aunt also made dinner for us the night before the Wedding and breakfast on our Wedding Day, as her house was not far from the Camp where the Wedding was being held. The dinner the night before made for the ideal time for my cousin to help us get the Wedding Flowers to the Camp, as purchasing wholesale flowers was her Wedding gift to us, given that I wanted to make my own arrangements and my bouquet!
That is how our friend and I spent the night before the Wedding, making flower arrangements, me making my bouquet, and us creating centerpieces with the flowers, ribbons, and antique and vintage books I was using for decor at the reception! Making the flower arrangements was such a beautiful way to commune with the May Queen and Flower Bride energy as we were setting up on my Wedding Weekend. Beyond that, I had the opportunity to spend most of the day barefoot, Earthing into the energy of this beautiful Faery Forest we were blessed to be married in!
The Wedding Day gave us gorgeous weather, and we got so many amazing photos of the First Look (in a Woodland Grove), the Ceremony, the Family Photos outside near a covered bridge, and in a Gazebo, all found on the property. As for the Ceremony, we wrote our own vows, and as I have mentioned quite a bit in the past, I actually referenced Guinevere and Lancelot directly in my vows (as I find Guinevere’s True Love to be her Faery Knight Lover, whoever he is in the different legends)! The whole day was magickal and full of laughing, dancing, great food, delicious wine, and so much love.
Every time that I look back on my Wedding Day, I feel so incredibly blessed to have celebrated the love between my husband and me in such a lovely location and with so much reverence for Nature and the Faery Queens of May! Doing the small things, like choosing to get married in the Forest, doing my own flowers, and holding the Wedding only two weeks after Beltane, really showed this deep reverence and love. As a sidenote, due to the pandemic, we had to push back our Wedding, which we had originally planned to hold on Halloween/Samhain of 2020. It ended up working out so well, as we married around Beltane instead, after having had a private Handfasting on Beltane (two weeks before the Wedding, as our families would have just been confused by the Handfasting)! It occurs to me that I have become more and more invested in my practices surrounding the May Queen and the Celtic Venus more generally, ever since planning my Wedding.
I began my work with the May Queens, Flower Brides, Celtic Venus, and the Faery Queens in general, many years before the Wedding. However, I think that having this day full of love in the middle of the Woodland really aligned me more deeply with the cycles of Nature and truly celebrated the love my husband and I share, as well as showing a deep communion with this energy. The Wedding also took place not long after I began this blog, and this is also where I have been sharing the growth and development of my Spiritual Practices, even starting my work as a Professional Priestess and Enchantress. I think that we all have turning points in our Journeys, that allow us to know we are on the right path. I had my Dream Wedding, which I had always known was what I wanted since childhood, a dream that began at the same time when I was having so many childhood experiences with the Fae. I began working with the Fae and Faery Queens Magickally and Spiritually many years before my Wedding, but I think my Wedding really was the beginning of a new chapter on many levels (in my romantic life, my spiritual life, and in my Priestess Path). I am so grateful for this time to reflect on my Wedding Day and Embracing the May Queen in my own life. I am so blessed to have my amazing husband, Andrew, by my side, and for him being so happy to let me create my Dream Wedding for our special day, and for all of his support in my entrepreneurial endeavors and Priestess Work! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, ANDREW!
I hope you have enjoyed reading this gratitude-filled reflection about my Wedding on my Anniversary. How do you Embrace the May Queen in your life? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
