Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s Tarot Thursday post is about how Solar energy relates to Tarot Archetypes. That means I will be looking at several cards that hold Solar energy! I want to note that some of these cards were already featured in other posts I have written about Tarot Archetypes and Planetary energy, which shows just how much overlap Tarot Archetypes have with Planetary energy and Astrological meanings. Now, without further ado, let’s look at the Sun and Tarot Archetypes!
THE SUN (XIX)
~The most obvious card to hold Solar Energy is the Sun card itself. The Sun is the card of warmth, joy, optimism, and masculine sexual energy. This is very much in line with the Sun being the Planetary energy that seeds new life with its rays!
THE EMPEROR (IV)
~The Emperor is the ultimate King of the Tarot, very much bearing a resemblance to the Solar Hero Archetype, hence why I find this card to hold a lot of Solar energy!
STRENGTH (VIII)
~The Strength card is the card associated with all types of Strength, physical, emotional, and mental strength being brought into balance. The Strength card is even aligned in Astrology with the sign of Leo, which is the sign ruled by the Sun, further proving this connection!
JUSTICE (XI)
~The Justice card is the card of Divine Truth and Justice. This is the card that holds the energy of the Sun as the arbiter of the Astrological chart and the Sun as the governor of the Calendar. After all, in Western Astrology, the Sun sign is often the only aspect of the chart a person knows, and our Calendar is based on the movement of the Sun!
KING OF WANDS
~The King of Wands is the fiery King full of Passion, Inspiration, and Artistic insight. This King holds the most obvious connection to the Sun (over other Kings) as he is the one ruled by the fire element!
QUEEN OF WANDS
~The Queen of Wands is the warm, gregarious, and magickal Queen. She is the Queen who is known as the Witch of the Tarot and holds a connection to the warmth and joy of Solar energy!
KNIGHT OF WANDS
~The Knight of Wands is the double fire card, the one that is always happy to jump into the fray of battle. He holds an energy that aligns with the Sun being a challenger that can just as easily burn us as much as he can aid us!
PAGE OF WANDS
~The Page of Wands is the card of ultimate Inspiration, the type of limitless inspiration that holds so much possibility but has not honed in on specific things to work on. This is the energy of the Sun, the warmth that will allow plants to grow at the beginning of the season, but not yet having the growth occur.
ACE OF WANDS
~The Ace of Wands is the card of a new beginning of a sudden bolt of Inspiration and Insight. This is the Solar energy of the first sparks of creativity, also sometimes called the Fire in the Head!
~I hope you have enjoyed this look at nine Tarot cards that hold Solar Energy. What other cards do you think hold Solar Energy? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

How about in the STAR, MOON, MAGICIAN, FOOL? I see them all as new energy cards.
Of course, any new energy card can be associated with the Sun. I chose to not include the Moon, as I see Lunar as the counterpart of Solar rather than as a part of Solar energy, like a balance point. I do like the idea of the Magician and the Fool, as possible energies that can be Solar (especially when we think of going on a Quest). The Star is also interesting, as the Sun is quite literally a star. Ultimately, we are all going to have our own unique relationship with the Tarot and with how we think of the Sun’s energy. Thank you for reading, commenting, and sharing your thoughts!
