Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s blog post is about tapping into the energy of the May Queen and Flower Bride during the Winter season! This may seem like an odd topic, or an odd idea, to embrace an energy of the Flower Bride, the May Queen, outside of the season of Spring. However, this idea is not just about embracing an energy outside of the season in which it is aligned, but rather about being true to your inner self.
I know that I personally have a lot of May Queen and Flower Bride energy naturally. The energy of the Celtic Venus is so profound in my life, in particular the Flower Bride aspect of this energy, and I also Priestess to Goddeses fitting this energy. This is likely because of the fact that my primary archetype (in Jean Shinoda Bolen’s Goddesses in Everywoman Jungian-based archetype system) is Aphrodite and my very close secondary archetype is Persephone. So, Aphrodite is the Alchemical Goddess and Lover, the Venus, and Persephone is the Maiden and the Underworld Goddess. This balancing of the Lover and the Maiden is very much the energy of the Celtic Venus in her Flower Bride and May Queen aspect, as the Lover is the deeply sensual Venusian energy at the core with a sweet and innocent pure-of-heart Maiden energy entwined with this Venusian energy!
Now, how do we attempt to embrace the May Queen and Flower Bride during the time of Winter, when everything is so cold and we still are immersed in the energy of the Crone? The answer is that we do things that tap into our senses. We build ourselves a cozy and aesthetically pleasing environment in our homes, as the world is cold and we are spending most of our time indoors. I love to read books and watch films, along with the other things I will discuss shortly, and you can incorporate Flower Bride energy when doing this. I love to re-read tales from The Mabinogion to see the Flower Bride and May Queen energy of Blodeuwedd and Rhiannon. I also love to read Arthurian tales see the Flower Bride and May Queen energy of Guinevere, and I love to watch Arthurian adaptations for the same reason!
A great way to enhance your home with this energy is by having houseplants. I find that this is a great idea for anyone who holds the energy of the May Queen and Flower Bride close to their hearts! I love being able to have plants around me, even when the weather outside is too cold to have them growing in their natural state outdoors, plus, I do not have space for a garden where I currently live, so this serves a dual purpose.
Another great way to bring Flower Bride energy into Winter is to develop soothing Rituals in daily life. This can be the way you begin your day, slowly awakening and stretching to welcome a new dawn. This can be the way you exercise, maybe adding in extra workouts that are sensual, like my favorites of Yoga and Bellydance. This can be taking time to slowly go about your day, not rushing yourself to access energy, and honoring the Winter as a time of deep slumber by moving slowly and intuitively. This can be making a Ritual out of drinking your daily hot tea, Floral Herbal Tea Blends are ideal to really tap into the Flower Bride (you can find several Enchanted Herbal Tea Blends that fit the bill right here at my online shop: https://whiteroseofavalon.life/shop/). Finally, you can do this by making a Ritual out of how you consume art, whether it is the written word in novels and poetry, the visual arts in cinema and paintings, or the musical arts. Any form of art consumption done in genuine reverence for how it makes you feel on a sensory level is an ideal way to engage with the Flower Bride energy in Winter!
The final things I want to touch on when it comes to embracing the Flower Bride is the celebration of the transition point between Winter and Spring and the celebration of the Love-centric holiday of Valentine’s Day! February sees both the Wheel of the Year holiday Imbolc on the 1st and Valentine’s Day on the 14th (with the very sexy counterpart Lupercalia on the 15th), calling in the energy of the burgeoning of Spring and dawning of the Spring Fling Lovers energy. So, acknowledging and celebrating the transition point, when snow is still falling but snowdrops are starting to break through the ground, is acknowledging the beautiful energy of the Flower Bride!
I hope you have enjoyed this analysis of embracing the May Queen and Flower Bride in Winter. What aspect of this energy calls to you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
