Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s Tarot Tuesday post is about embracing the Queen of Wands Archetype in Winter! As with my previous two days, I have decided to continue discussing the Divine Feminine Tarot Archetypes with this post. In fact, I plan to continue to discuss Tarot Archetypes more throughout part of this week and very likely into next week as well. With the New Year coming up, I have really felt drawn to go within and examine my own process lately, and given that Tarot archetypes are so important in my spirituality and magick (as is the Divine Feminine, obviously), this seemed to be the ideal thing to focus my writing on at this time! Now that I have ruminated on just why this is my third post in a row about Tarot Archetypes (with more on the way), let’s look at how the Queen of Wands Archetype can be used in Winter.
The Queen of Wands is very often described as being the Witch of the Tarot. This Witch archetype that is attached to the Queen of Wands is shown in some versions of the card (including the artwork by Brandi York, which I found and shared at the top of this post), and a Black Cat is featured on the card with the Queen. Even the Queen of Wands illustration by Pamela Coleman Smith for the Rider-Waite-Smith deck features a Black Cat. Of course, being a Cat lover and Faery Witch, I had to mention this. I adore that the Witch of the Tarot has her familiar often pictured with her!
Now, let’s look at the personality of the Queen of Wands. She is the warm and gregarious Queen, the one who can draw others to her like a moth to the flame. That same fiery energy is also what ignites the passion and creativity needed to create magick (hence the connection to Witchy energy)! As I stated in the title of this post, the Queen of Wands Archetype is truly the Light in the Darkness. During the depths of Winter, we definitely need a Light in the Darkness to help us navigate our way through any uncertainties that may be happening. Embracing the creative, passionate, and very fiery energy of the Queen of Wands is one way to keep ourselves focused on the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been feeling into this energy very much around the Winter Solstice, beginning last week and certainly on the official Solstice this past Saturday. This desire to fully embrace the Queen of Wands with her warmth and her sunny energy is still very much on my mind now. After all, I consider Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (really all the way through New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day) to be part of Solstice Season and my Yule celebrations! This makes it no surprise to me that the energy of the Queen of Wands Archetype, being a Light in the Darkness and a warming presence in this Wintery time, is still at the forefront of my mind.
Interestingly, the Queen of Wands has been coming up in my own readings, both those I have done for myself and those friends have done for me quite a bit recently. She is such a powerful energy to me, one that is both fun-loving in the warmth and life of the party energy and a great symbol of the return of the Sun, which is currently happening in the Wheel of the Year right now! I hope you have enjoyed this short post sharing my thoughts about what the Queen of Wands means to me right now. How do you embrace the Queen of Wands in Winter? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
