Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s post is a poem about taking a Woodland Journey on a dark and cold Winter’s night!
Woodland Quest
by Maranda Wabik
Wind sharp as ice,
Thrashing overhead,
Whipping at my skin like a knife’s slice.
I walked down a snowy path to see where it led,
My instincts were on high,
As the canopy masked the moonlight.
I let my intuition be my guide,
As I knew there was nowhere to hide.
Starlight softly twinkled through the bare branches,
Whilst the night grew increasingly darker.
On and on I wandered down the path,
Of cold and uncertainty.
With gnawing pangs of doubt clawing at my soul,
Wondering if I would ever feel whole.
I searched for any source of light,
As it would be such a welcome sight,
In this Woodland on this cold night!
Deeper and deeper my feet crept over fallen branches
And dead leaves,
Where the snow had begun to accumulate quickly,
Creating a blanket of white powder.
The bone-chilling air,
Made my skin angry red,
With bursts of wind rustling through my long hair,
As thoughts began to spin in my head.
A deep breath in this frozen atmosphere,
Centered my mind and soothed my spirit,
Yet I still wondered, what was there to fear?
My mind clear allowed me to endure,
My keen eyes slowly adjusted
To the damp darkness of my Forest abode.
I could now see a sparkle of white light in the distance,
Just as a White Hart appeared on my Path,
Meeting me eye to eye.
My blood rushed with delight,
When meeting this spy,
Knowing this to be the start of a Quest,
Where I may be put to a test!
I followed the Faery Stag deeper into the trees,
Off the beaten Path I had trod,
Into a new world of possible applaud.
The cold was beginning to ease,
As I arrived in a clearing of Oak Trees,
There in the center, I saw Her,
Great Goddess of the Wild Greenwood!
She was feeding Her Reindeer and holding a torch.
When She raised her gaze to meet my eyes,
I felt full of awe,
As She had the power to amaze.
I had found myself in the presence
Of Faery Queen
Elen of the Ways!
All of my fears began to melt like snow on a Vernal day.
When She took my hand,
Elen of the Ways became my guide
Through the treacherous Woodland of my mind!
That is how I found myself finally,
Out of the Darkness and into the Light!
