Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s post is about how the Dark Moon aligns with the Siren Archetype for this week’s Siren Saturday! After all, the Moon is currently in her Dark phase right now, as the New Moon in Sagittarius is tomorrow. The Dark Moon phase is the time when the Moon is not visible in the Sky, but her energy is still ever present. The Dark Moon is the time to go inward and explore our inner Underworld, explore our Shadows!
Just by that brief description of the Dark Moon phase, it is quite obvious that the dangerous Siren Archetype is deeply aligned with it. The Siren Archetype is very much in line with the Mermaid Archetype, just being the more dangerous and darker version of the archetype. Sirens enchant with their song, but they can lure a sailor into a watery death, while Mermaids are much more playful in their enchantments. The danger of encountering the Siren leads to fear for many, and the same could be said of the danger of delving into the unknown depths of our own unconscious Underworld realms to confront the Shadows.
You may be feeling this even more profoundly than normal this Dark Moon, as it is occurring in the sign of Scorpio, with the New Moon entering Sagittarius tomorrow. After all, Scorpio is all about the Underworld of our emotions, a Water sign ruled by Pluto, the planet named for the Roman God of the Underworld, with good reason. My own ability to feel at home exploring the depths of my Shadow and confronting my fears and anxieties in an endless search for truth could be enhanced by the fact that I have my Pluto in Scorpio in my birth chart. My husband has this same placement, and we both share this willingness to search the dark depths to find truths!
Now, you may wonder why you should embrace this Dark Moon energy of the unknown, as it is so often an uncomfortable thing to reckon with. The easy answer is that you do not have to work with any energy you do not feel comfortable with, and certainly, any form of Shadow Work should not be delved into if you are not ready to do so. That being said, embracing the Dark Moon and tapping into some of the Siren Archetypal energy can help you better understand your own motivations and get to know yourself better. It can even help you to integrate trauma and pain, to alchemize those hurts into something new and beautiful!
This has turned into a much more poignant and poetic exploration of the Dark Moon and the Siren Archetype than I had expected, but I think that is truly a sign that I have tapped into this energy while writing this post!
