Tarot and the Path to Self-Knowledge

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   Today’s Tarot Thursday post is about using Tarot as a tool to gain a better understanding of yourself and deepen into contact with your Higher Self as you walk a Spiritual Path!   Many of us who read Tarot cards start learning in order to better understand ourselves as we request guidance for the future.   The allure of learning to read Tarot is to have a tool to use in magickal and spiritual practices, and we learn so much about our abilities and our inner truths while learning Tarot.   In fact, a journey to learn Tarot can evolve into a deep love of many types of divination, as I also regularly practice Mirror Scrying and Tea Leaf Reading!

Since I am looking at the journey of learning Tarot, let’s go back to the beginning.   I know that I myself began to read Tarot a decade ago when I was looking to deepen my spiritual path and access my own innate magick.   My journey learning the Tarot was one that evolved greatly over many months.   I started by studying each card as I did daily card pulls, meditating, and writing my personal interpretation of each of the seventy-eight cards.   This led to my beginning to read for other people, my loved ones at first.   I was able to access this deep knowledge within me to help others understand more about their situation.

As I began to read for others, my relationship with the cards grew ever more profound.    Meditating with the cards and journalling about my Tarot experiences helped to make me better understand what was going on in my life.   Eventually, I chose to do the Hallowquest developed by Caitlin and John Matthews for their Arthurian Tarot.   This process took over a year, and it was an incredibly profound experience for me!

The Hallowquest was more than just a deep dive into a specific deck, instead being a great way to see how the cards impact our lives.    Each card appears to us when it does for a reason, and deep diving into the cards with meditation, journalling, and expansive card spreads allows us to know what each card means for our individual life events.   When I finished the Hallowquest, I continued to do this deep work each day.   Daily Tarot work is what allows me to see patterns and better understand my own relationship with the Tarot decks and Tarot archetypes as time goes on!

All of the events on my journey learning Tarot have led me to read for others as part of my Priestess Path.   That is why I now offer Tarot reading services here at the White Rose of Avalon Online Shop and on my Patreon (the top two tiers get monthly readings).   I have developed a profound connection to the cards and archetypes, and I love helping others, so reading professionally is a great way to share this with my customers and clients.   I even offer channeled readings, which allow me to utilize both my knowledge and bond with the Tarot and my connection and communion with Faery Queens at the same time!

Beyond developing a deep bond with the cards and archetypes, Tarot can teach us a lot about self-knowledge through the exploration of the Fool’s Journey.   After all, we are always the Fool on Journey, as everything happens in cycles, we can interpret the appearance of Major Arcana cards in our reading as the place within the Fool’s Journey we are currently working through!   The Fool and the Fool’s Journey is a beautiful way to find an alignment between the Spiritual Path we are walking and the archetypal nature of the Tarot.

I hope you have enjoyed this short look at how I have used Tarot as a Path to Self-Knowledge.   What is your relationship with the Tarot?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
