Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s Siren Saturday post is about Melusine and the Celtic Venus, one of the most important aspects of my personal magickal and spiritual practice! Venus is not just the Roman Goddess of Love, but a planet that truly embodies the ultimate nature of the Divine Feminine and Love Goddess energy overall.
Of course, Melusine does embody much of the Celtic Venus energy. She is a Mermaid Goddess and has a Serpentine Goddess energy. This easily links Her to the love, fertility, and sexuality that are key to Venusian energy! Furthermore, Melusine’s story shows aspects of Venusian energy in more detail.
In the story of Melusine, she is married to the Count Raymond, and she bore him many children. Clearly, she is a very fertile and sexual Faery Queen Goddess! Another aspect of Her fertility aspect is seen in her nature as the Builder Faery. She is referred to as the Builder Faery because Melusine was integral in building many castles on Raymond’s lands. This is the expansion of her fertility because this is the aspect of Her nature as a Faery Queen Goddess of the Land. Her marriage to Raymond blessed him with his title and expanded his lands. Between birthing actual children and building many castles, Melusine is one of the most fertile of all Faery Queens!
Fertility and sexuality are inextricably linked, as without sex, procreation is not possible, and Melusine shows both of those aspects. Her romance with Raymond shows her sexual nature, but the most profound aspect of Her story that confirms Her sexual nature is Melusine’s aspect as a Mermaid! This is even more deeply asserted by the fact that Her Mermaid aspect is often described as being Serpentine in nature. Serpents, in general, have a deep connection to sexuality, specifically to female sexuality. That is what ties Melusine so deeply to Kundalini energy, which is the feminine Serpentine energy that flows from the Root Chakra up the spine along all the Chakras. Melusine has much knowledge to share on these subjects and more, which is why I am so excited to be in the process of creating a class all about Her!
Melusine embodies the Love side of Venusian energy both in romantic ways, with the romance with Her husband before he betrayed Her, and in maternal ways, with Melusine having deep bonds with Her children and descendants across time. All of the examples given in this post serve to show that Melusine is one of the most ideal examples of the Celtic Venus!
