Communing with the Ancestors for Samhain Celebrations!

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   Today’s post is about communing with the Ancestors as part of your Samhain celebrations.  As many know, Samhain is a time when the Veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest.

This makes the time leading up to Samhain an ideal time to make contact with our Ancestors.   Now, when we discuss making contact with Ancestors, they need not be our blood Ancestors, as we can also commune with the Ancestors of the land we live on or Ancestors of our chosen path.   After all, even without a bloodline connection, we are linked to those who lived on the land we currently reside on and with those who previously lived a life devoted to the same deities!

There are many ways to commune with the Ancestors.   Many people build and maintain an altar to their Ancestors for the Samhain season or even all year round.   You can also meditate to draw close to the Ancestors.    Finally, there is leaving offerings to the Ancestors.   Offerings are a great way to pay respect to the Ancestors by gifting them things they may have enjoyed in life!

If you are specifically working with the Ancestors from your own family line, visiting their graves and leaving flowers and other items to show your love is a beautiful thing.   You can also spend time looking through old photos and reminiscing with loved ones to feel the connection to those that have gone before.   You may even have clothing items or jewelry that once belonged to the Ancestor you are looking to commune with.   Samhain is a great time to wear those items with fondness to let our lost loved ones know that they will never be forgotten!

For me personally, Ancestor communion during Samhain, and all year long, involves drawing closer to my lost loved ones that I knew in this life, but also meeting some relatives I never knew before.   It is a communion with the Priestess Ancestors of Avalon, who are connected to me via the shared Priestess nature and the Ancestral Spirits of the Land herself.   Finally, for me, this is the communion and reverence for my own Faery Queen Ancestresses.   Most prevalently, Melusine, who is the Faery Queen Mother of my Bloodline, and is always there for me.   In fact, building my Melusine course is an act of love and devotion to my very special link to Her, as well as a form of Ancestral Communion!

At the end of the day, what you do to honor the Ancestors is as unique as your connection to their memory.   I am sharing this short post to give you some inspiration on how to work Ancestor communion into your Samhain celebrations.    What is your favorite way to honor your Ancestors?    Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
