The Enchantress of Avalon’s Tips for Shadow Work & Self-Love in Autumn!


Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   Today’s post is a list of some of my personal tips for using the Autumn of the year to do Shadow Work and, by extension, promote self-love!   To be honest, a couple of these tips were also methods to connect with the Water Fae discussed yesterday, but as they fit this theme, I had to include them again.

Tip 1: WRITE DOWN YOU LIST OF FEARS AND BURN THEM

~One of the most basic forms of Shadow Work is doing a Fear Inventory, and after venting out those fears on paper, you burn them!   I love burning them with the intent of sending them into the keeping of one of my beloved Faery Queens, but even just burning your fears and sending them into the universe is powerful.   This also allows you to take stock of what you fear at this time and where your Shadow may have become activated!   

Tip 2: MEDITATE WITH YOUR FAVORITE FAERY

~This could literally be any Faery, from a Faery Queen to your personal Faery Guardian or even a specific species of Fae.   I love doing this in Autumn and Spring, especially as the Veil Between Worlds is so thin right now!   That being said, I do meditate with the Fae literally all year round, as it is a regular aspect of my practice.   I just wanted to note that as the Veil thins, this type of meditation and contact with the Fae becomes much easier.   Meditating with the Fae can help you learn new skills, find new paths that are calling to you, and even heal traumas (as the Fae are very helpful in teaching us to heal and even healing us themselves when they have a bond with us)!

Tip 3: MIRROR SCRYING TO EMBRACE THE SHADOWS

~It is important to recognize our Shadows and embrace those parts of ourselves instead of pretending they do not exist, as this is the only way to truly heal.  My favorite way to explore the Shadows, work through trauma, overcome fears, and embrace Shadow desires is Mirror Scrying.   I do want to note that when I say embrace Shadow desires, I do not mean acting on those desires, but rather acknowledging that they exist so that we are aware of that aspect of ourselves and we can see ourselves more clearly.   When I Mirror Scry, I use an Obsidian Mirror Ball and a single candle in a dark room to divine information on the surface of the Mirror.   I am usually transported to Avalon, as I can very easily Astral Project while scrying, and there I can work through many issues!  Another, less magickal way to embrace the Shadows is to simply watch horror films and read horror books.   Both Mirror Scrying and enjoying horror are safe ways to explore your fears and your shadow desires!

Tip 4: CANDLE MAGICK TO SET INTENTIONS

~I cannot tell you how often I work candles into my magickal workings.   There is just something so witchy and spiritual about lighting a candle with specific intent.   Carving words into the candle, anointing it with specially chosen oils and herbs, and ensuring the color correspondence is on point all lead to one of the most simple yet effective spells!   You light the candle and let it burn all the way down, focusing on your intentions, and those intentions go off to hopefully be carried out!   

Tip 5: BATH MAGICK TO WASH AWAY WORRIES

~I can never cease to expound on how much I love Bath Magick, and it is an absolute staple for me, just like the previous tip.   The process of drawing the bath with intentions and making a sensuous place to soak is soothing in and of itself.   Then, you get to wash away worries as you call in intentions.   Finally, you unstop the drain and let all your stress be washed down the drain!   In the colder months of the year, this is especially soothing, as the bath can help you warm up.   This lends an extra layer of self-love to Bath Magick for me!

Tip 6: STIRRING INTENTIONS INTO YOUR TEACUP

~Such a simple little thing that I do literally every time I stir anything.   Every time I stir some honey into my tea, I do it in patterns like the vesica pisces, the Faery Star, or the Pentacle to bring about daily intentions!   This is one way to make even the most mundane aspects of life magickal.

Tip 7: ENCHANTING YOUR FOOD 

~Finally, much like the previous tip, enchanting your food as you cook is a very simple practice that allows you to imbibe the magick you wish to create.   It can be through stirring sauces, kneading breads, or even just popping something in the oven with magickal ingredients!   This little bit of simple kitchen witchery can even make food taste better in my experience, much like the old adage ‘baked with love,’ as intent matters.
