Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s Tarot Tuesday post is about how Morgan le Fay can represent the energy of the Magician in Tarot. This post was inspired by the fact that Morgan le Fay is on the Magician card in Le Tarot arthurien by Claire Duval. The card is even titled La Magicienne (the feminine form of the word in French instead of the masculine)!
Morgan le Fay embodies both the masculine and the feminine elements of magick. She embodies the masculine side of magick because she is an Enchantress and a Sorceress who casts her spells and creates her potions. To do spell work and create potions is to be an active participant in magickal workings. This differs from the feminine and receptive aspect of magick, which is being a conduit or channel for the Divine, imparting wisdom and messages from other realms. The feminine magick is the energy of the High Priestess, initatrix, into the occult mysteries. While she has both of these energies, I adore Le Tarot arthurien for putting her on the Magician card instead of the High Priestess, as that would have been expected.
Morgan, in the Magician energy, represents the Mistress of Manifestation, creating change through her magickal workings. The Magician is the manifestor of transformation through spell work or other magickal workings. The Magician is not going to simply wait to receive guidance; the Magician is going to create the change! This nature of creating change for yourself is well reflected in Morgan le Fay’s portrayal in the Arthurian legends. She was forever plotting the downfall of Camelot, at least in the most famous versions of her story, and using her magick to do so. Morgan le Fay enchanted a cup to reveal unfaithful wives, used her magick to make a duplicate Excalibur to sabotage Arthur, and transformed Sir Bertilak into the Green Knight! And that is just to name a few of her more famous uses of magickal enchantment to manifest change. I think these examples prove that Morgan le Fay definitely represented the Magician energy in the Arthurian tales!
Finally, I want to end with a little side tangent. I have a special connection to the Magician, as in numerology, I have a life path number of one, which is the number of the Magician in the Tarot! That, coupled with my deep connection to Morgan le Fay as my Matron Goddess and my work as her Priestess, is why I wanted to write this short post exploring her connection to the Magician energy. I thought this was a truly fascinating topic to begin the month of October with!
I hope you have enjoyed this brief look at Morgan le Fay and her connection to the Magician in Tarot. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
