Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   Today’s post is about Mermaids and Sirens and how Water Faery energy can be worked with throughout the entire year, not just during Summer!   I know that many people associate Mermaids with the Summer, and I even work with them highly through the Summer, but they are not just a Summer energy.   Mermaids and Water Fae of all sorts are the keepers and protectors of the Sacred Waters, and Water is so important to life and should be honored all year round!   I have written about working with Watery and Water Fae energy surrounding the Wheel of the Year in the past, but I think as the seasons turn, it is important to explore the energies that are prevalent in our lives.

I have discussed many times on this blog that I have a very deep connection to the Mermaid archetype.   In fact, the Mermaid archetype is the most prevalent archetype in my life and has been for as long as I can remember!    I work very closely with the energy of the Water Fae in my spiritual and magickal workings all year round.   Many regular readers will know that when it comes to elemental workings, I have the most deep connection to Water and Earth.

In fact, I see Mermaids and other Water Fae as the perfect physical representation of the connection between Earth and Water.   Traditional Mermaids are half woman and half fish, literally connecting the landlocked nature of humans and the watery nature of fish.   It is much like the idea that the Virgo Pisces axis can be viewed as a Mermaid, as this is an axis of the Earth energy of Virgo and the Water energy of Pisces!    Both Virgo and Pisces are the signs that herald the oncoming Equinoxes, making them transitional portal times, relating to the liminal nature of Faery and of bodies of Water in general.

Now that we are in Autumn, the transition between the heat of Summer and the ice of Winter, we are in a liminal portal, and we can embrace the liminal nature of Water Faeries to better flow with the cycles and tides of nature.   I have been really feeling a deep pull towards the water lately, which is part of what has inspired me to write about my beloved Mermaids today!   My own energy is so attuned to the Water Fae and Mermaids, especially, as I said, they have a combination of Earthy and Watery energies, just like myself.

I cannot write about Water Fae in Autumn without mentioning my own Matron Goddess, Morgan le Fay, who has an intense connection to Water. She rules a Ninefold Sisterhood on the Isle of Avalon, meaning Avalon herself is surrounded by water, only accessed via a barge sailing onto her shores. Mists must be parted (and Mist is Water and Air combined) in order to enter Avalon. Morgan le Fay’s association as a healer is linked to Water and Mermaid energy, as it is common for Mermaids to be portrayed as healers. Finally, Morgan le Fay’s name is tied to the Welsh Mari Morgens, who are Water Fae, with Morgan’s name translating to ‘Sea Born’! I feel Morgan’s energy every single day, as she has been with me always, and I am so blessed to be her Priestess. I know that even people who do not work so closely with Morgan le Fay or Avalon tend to feel the pull of her and the Isle of Apples more strongly during Autumn, making for a perfect alignment of how Mermaid energy is prevalent in this season! 

Finally, I want to touch on what working with Water Fae energy in Autumn can look like. This will likely mean even more magickal and ritual baths for me than usual, and I am sure I will figure out some other beautiful Watery workings that I can do with the utmost reverence for the Autumnal season.    I know that simmer pots are fabulous and combine that Earth and Water energy as you are simmering spices, herbs, and even fruits in water to make the whole home smell great!   Really, the possibilities are endless when we choose to get creative and work from a place of genuine love.
