Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s post is about embracing the Queen Archetype for Autumn. Across many cultures, Queenly energy is associated with Autumn. A prime example of this from Greco-Roman myth is that Persephone made her descent back into the Underworld to be with her husband at the Autumnal Equinox, marking this time as being associated with her Queen of the Underworld aspect!
In my own practice, I associate this time as being the time of the High Queen, or Empress, aspects of the Faery Queen Goddesses I am devoted to. I am not the only one, as I know of other Avalonian traditions that also focus on the Queen aspect of Morgan le Fay (like Demi Fox’s Morgan le Fay Mystery School) or on Rhiannon’s regaining her crown after her unjust punishment during the Autumn (like Jhenah Telyndru’s Sisterhood of Avalon)! While I have such respect for both of those traditions, and I have studied them (I am even a member of the Sisterhood of Avalon), my own practice is very much my own and very personal. I find that most of us do develop a personal practice that is quite unique to us. However, our unique practices are impacted by different books we read on spirituality and different spiritual teachers that we study from. The beautiful thing about spirituality, especially where Paganism, Polytheism, and Goddesses are concerned, is that we can take aspects of one way of celebrating our reverence for nature and the Divine and leave behind that which is not right for us. As long as we come to our spiritual workings and magickal workings with sincere respect and love, there are so many ways to be a Priestess to the Divine!
For me, my practice involves focusing on the High Queen energy of Faery Queen Goddesses, as they are always Queens, during Autumn. I do this instead of focusing on their more youthful Flower Bride energy, which is Springtime energy. When I say that in Autumn I focus on their High Queen energy, I mean the energy which they exude as they rule over their subjects! Think of Guinevere when she is ruling over Camelot, think of Morgan le Fay when she is ruling over Avalon, and think of Blodeuwedd when she has taken over control of Lleu’s lands and is ruling over them with Gronw (before they are punished). That is High Queen energy!
As the season of Autumn is fully upon us, it is time to begin to deepen into this Queen energy. Some of the easiest ways to do this are to meditate with the Faery Queens in their High Queen aspects or to practice Spiritual Self-Care. After all, Queen energy is as much about being pampered as it is about nurturing others because a Queen cannot care for anyone else if she is not taking proper care of herself. After all, you cannot pour from an empty cup, so we must fill our cups first. That is why I have been writing about Self-Care and specifically Spiritual Self-Care, more often recently!
Now, when I say Spiritual Self-Care, I am referring to properly cleansing and protecting ourselves in a Spiritual sense. This means taking ritual baths, cleansing the home magickally, and ensuring that we wear our protective jewelry and that our homes are spiritually protected! This is something that most spiritually attuned and witchy people do regularly, but I suggest really making it soothing and luxurious to honor the High Queen Energy.
I hope this short post has inspired you to embrace the High Queen energy in your own life. What is your favorite part of the High Queen Archetype? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
