Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s post is a countdown of my five favorite Vampire television series. As a note, I have included two series that are actually a universe of two shared series. That may seem like a cheat, but as it is my list, I am making my own rules. Without further ado, let’s look at my ranking!
Number 5: WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (2019)
~This show is absolutely hilarious, as is the original film that inspired it. This is the Vampire series that my husband and I watch together because we both have so much to enjoy from this outrageous satire! The characters are all memorable, and the antics are really crazy. I personally adore the references to other Vampire media, mostly films, throughout the show!
Number 4: INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (2022)
~Now, it may be surprising that I rank this one so low, as the show is really incredible. I adore Anne Rice, and this series is really amazing, so it had to make this list. However, I just had to put the others above it, partially for nostalgia and partially because of how much I rewatch them, as rewatchablility counts! That being said, I love how the series deviates from the books, making watching it all the more thrilling, as even those who have read the books are not certain where they may take the series.
Number 3: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (1997) & ANGEL (1999)
~Okay, so this is one of those rankings that has two series in one, but that is because the universe is intertwined, plus I could not really choose between the two. I have an insane amount of nostalgia for these shows as I grew up watching them. Of course, I have also watched both of these series countless times, even as an adult! There is a lot of comfort in revisiting our favorite shows from childhood, and that is what these shows bring me.
Number 2: TRUE BLOOD (2008)
~I could not make this list without having this iconic HBO series. I adore the adventures of Sookie, Eric, Bill, and all the rest! Of course, it gets bonus points for all of the Faery content in the series. I love to rewatch this one with my husband, as we both enjoy the chaotic nature of the series!
Number 1: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (2009) & THE ORIGINALS (2013)
~I do not think that this one really comes as a surprise, as I have written about these two shows quite a bit. You may notice that the third show in the universe, Legacies, does not make an appearance here. That is because it did not live up to the previous two series in quality. I have watched it all the way through and got a reasonable amount of enjoyment out of it, loving some of the characters dearly, but it did not quite make it to an all-time favorite like these two did. In fact, these two are my most rewatched Vampire shows ever! I have nostalgia attached to them, but I also just still really enjoy the ride of seeing the story unfold.
