‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ & A Perfect Day of Birthday Celebrations!

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings.   Today’s post is about seeing the new film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and my birthday celebrations!   So, I chose to celebrate my birthday with my husband on Friday, which was two days before my actual birthday because I wanted to see the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice film on opening day, Friday, September 6.   I did not want to risk any spoilers, as I had avoided even watching the trailers, wanting to be as surprised as I could when viewing the long-anticipated film for the first time.

Now, my day of celebration began with a morning of finishing up some business setup, but in the afternoon the celebrations began.   We went for an early dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant, and I had my favorite roll, which is called the Frankenstein Roll (very on theme for the movie).   The dinner was absolutely delicious, and I even got carded to order my French Martini, which was flattering!    After eating, we had time before the showing of the movie, so we went to Barnes & Noble.

Of course, looking at books is one of my favorite things to work into birthday celebrations, as I am an absolutely voracious bookworm!    Mostly, we just enjoyed sipping on our Autumnal beverages, I had a Pumpkin Chai that was phenomenal, while we looked at the books.   I did find one book I just had to have, as I did not yet have it in my collection.   Andrew bought me a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight!   I adore the story, as Andrew mentioned when I showed him the book, as I am sure long-time readers will well know, so having the best translation for my next reading of the tale is amazing.   It was a great second birthday gift from Andrew, and goes well with his other gift of Le Tarot arthurien!

When we were finished at the bookstore it was finally time to go to our local movie theater.   We excitedly got our tickets and popcorn before we went into Auditorium 7, where our showing was playing.   I got to sit in my preferred seat, as we were the first ones there.   I always sit in the back corner, as it gives me full sight of the screen without the risk of any tall person sitting in front of me!

Now, as for my thoughts on the film, I will share them here, but unlike my Lisa Frankenstein deep-dive review, I will not give any spoilers.   I will begin by stating that I absolutely ADORED this sequel!   I tried to keep my expectations low, as sequels rarely compete with the original.   This one is very good though, obviously not as good as the first, but a very good sequel.   We follow the story of Lydia, Delia, and Lydia’s daughter Astrid following the death of Lydia’s father.

There is a lot going on in this movie, which I personally enjoyed, as it added to the over-the-top nature of this universe.   I know the many storylines going on may not be for everyone, but they really worked for me!   I had so much fun, and both Andrew and I had lots of laughs as we watched the insanity unfold.    There were some good plot twists that made what could have been a very predictable storyline feel fresh.   I loved the callbacks to the original without trying to be the original, as that again kept things fresh.   I really appreciated finding the cast to be so stacked with great actors, as I did not look into who was in the film, again wanting to know as little as possible.   There was even a very fun cameo that got the first big laugh of the film.   Finally, I want to state that Delores was probably my favorite new antagonist in the movie, and I also liked the character Bob who was very sweet and empathetic!

I hope you have enjoyed this little look at how I celebrated my birthday with my husband.   If you are on the fence about seeing Beetlejuice Beetlejuice I highly recommend it!   Have you seen the film yet?   Are you planning to see it?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
