Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is my ranking of the entire Chucky film franchise, except the remake as that is not part of the original timeline! I know that many of my rankings will be very controversial, but I wanted to do this ranking for fun and as a great beginning for Spooky Season. Without further ado, let’s look at my ranking!
Number 7:CHILD’S PLAY
~Okay, so right from the jump, it is clear that this list will be very controversial. I want to state that I do genuinely enjoy all of the films of this franchise. That being said, the first film is not as fun for me given that it does not utilize Chucky himself as a character nearly enough due to the premise of the film having a mystery element where the viewer is supposed to question whether the doll is actually at fault.
Number 6: CHILD’S PLAY 3
~I know this film is famously disliked in the franchise overall, but I do truly still enjoy it more than the original, as Chucky is fully himself in this film. We get an older Andy with a setting at a military school, making for an interesting change of pace for the series.
Number 5: CHILD’S PLAY 2
~This is many people’s favorite film in the entire franchise, so I know this is a pretty controversial take to rate it so low. That being said, I do enjoy this film, as it is Chucky getting to have more screen time as the killer doll than in the original. However, my major issue with the first three films is that the films did not realize that the most entertaining part of the series was Chucky himself. The key to a great film in this franchise is to have Chucky be the center of attention in the plot!
Number 4: CURSE OF CHUCKY
~I know this is a film usually liked better than the follow-up Cult. That being said, I found that the return to the form of the original with the focus being placed on the humans and having Chucky only get to show his personality more than halfway through is not nearly as entertaining. Honestly, the film had a very slow start for me, and my husband and I agreed that it got so much better when the focus returned to Chucky! Why it is ranked above the other three is that it gets bonus points for the inclusion of Tiffany at the end.
Number 3: CULT OF CHUCKY
~Now, this film does not shy away from focusing on our beloved killer doll! In fact, he is in multiple forms in the film, which makes for some truly zany antics, and a much better film than the others below it, in my opinion. Having Andy and Tiffany both return makes this a truly fleshed-out Chucky film.
Number 2: SEED OF CHUCKY
~Okay, so this is my absolute most controversial opinion on this list. I know this is a very hated film, and I know it is a technically very bad movie, but it is so much fun! I only realized how much I truly enjoyed this movie on my most recent re-watch. The original watch made me kind of really dislike this film, but the first re-watch in high school made me see it as a ridiculous, but fun romp. This most recent re-watch made me realize it is a so bad it’s good kind of film, and I adore Tiffany in this film!
Number 1: BRIDE OF CHUCKY
~Okay, so no other film could have been my number one on this list. I love Bride of Chucky so much! It is the introduction of Tiffany, my favorite character in the series, yes you read that right, I love Chucky, but I prefer Tiffany. The film has a great cast, a great soundtrack, and a very fun plot full of double-killer doll chaos! For me, this is where they got the formula exactly right, have tons of fun, and lean into the comedy, but still have enough horror elements to be considered both. With the follow-up Seed, they went full-blown dark comedy with lots of killing, clearly not trying to be horror anymore, but Bride still has that balance! It gets major bonus points for re-watchability and for just how quotable this film is, as the one-liners are amazing.
