Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings.   Today’s post is going to be looking at Emily Carding’s Faery Astrology, as discussed in her book Faery Craft.   Emily Carding used her knowledge of Astrology and Faerylore to create a full twelve zodiac signs that align with the traditional Western Zodiac.   I will not be going over all twelve signs here, but I will discuss two of them, those that align with my Rising Sign and my Sun and Moon Sign.   Without further ado, let’s look at Faery Astrology!

Rising Sign: Western Astrology- Leo 

Faery Astrology: MYRDDIN THE SEER

~I really love that Merlin himself is the archetype chosen to represent Leo in this Faery Astrology!  I even give major bonus points for the fact that she chose to use this older Welsh name.   Merlin’s ability to use magick to manifest his desires and to help others, particularly those of the Pendragon line, is very in line with the fiery and Sun-ruling nature of Leo!   In fact, his association with Dragons, be it the Pendragon line or the Dragons of Dinas Emrys, shows an alignment with the fire element.   I definitely see that Magician energy in the Leo archetype, as Leo is definitely big Royal energy, but also big energy in manifesting great things in our lives.    It was certainly an interesting choice to have a fire sign represented by a Seer and Magician, as most would assume only Faeries deeply tied to the fire element would be included.   With that being said, I really adore Merlin representing the sign of Leo, for all the reasons listed above!    

Sun & Moon Sign: Western Astrology- Virgo

Faery Astrology: EURYDICE THE DRYAD

~So, no other Faery being could have been aligned with Virgo than a Dryad.   After all what better than the Tree-faeries to represent this solid Earth sign?   Now, I know you may think, well what about Gnomes or other deeply earth-element Faeries?   Well, the thing is that Virgo is a very feminine sign so that needed to be taken into consideration when choosing which Faery would represent the sign, and Dryads are female tree nymphs!   I also appreciate that she did not just simply choose the species of Faery, but honed in on a particular and important Dryad from Greek Myth.   The tale of Orpheus and Eurydice has long been one of my all-time favorite romantic myths.   After all, who does not love the idea of having a romance so profound that your spouse would be willing to travel to the Underworld and ask the God of the Underworld himself to release you from Death?   While the story ends sadly, the power of this level of love is undeniable!   That makes me feel really good that my Sun and Moon are related to it in this Faery Astrology.   Even more romantically, my husband is also a Virgo Moon, meaning that we both are related to this romantic myth!
