Lughnasadh, the First Harvest of the Year!

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings.   Today’s Lughnasadh post is basically just a short little look at this first harvest festival of the year!   I love this day for the fact that it signals the ending of the Summer and the soon-to-be dawning of Autumn, the true happiest time of the year.

Each Lughnasadh, I love to do divination, as that is a favorite way to mark each Wheel of the Year holiday for me.   I also make sure to incorporate fresh fruits and veggies into my Lughnasadh meals.   This can even be incorporated into my magick, as one of my favorite forms of magick, especially in the Autumn is apple magick!    After all, this is the time of the year when apples are going to be at their freshest, as they are in season for the three harvest festivals.

My favorite thing to use apples for magickally is to make my own apple candle holders.   Essentially, I will cut the core out of the apple partially to make the ideal space to insert the bottom of a candle.   This is best done with spell candles or small tapers of some sort.    I then carve the candle with words of enchantment or sigils, anoint them with oils, and cover them in herbs that align with my magickal intentions!    As I burn the candle, I imagine all of the blessings coming into my life.    As a bonus, as the candle burns fully down, sometimes it smells like baking apples since the center of the apple has been heated by the hot wax!

I hope you have enjoyed this very short look at one of my favorite ways to celebrate Lughnasadh.   To be honest, I also enjoy doing this for Apple Magick during other holidays and for my birthday, but I thought discussing Apple Magick was perfect for the first harvest.    What are some of your favorite Lughnasadh celebrations?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Happy Lammas/Lughnasadh. I’m celebrating today, too. I have fresh apples and will be doing a little divination today. I love feeling that I’m part of the natural cycle of life as the Wheel of the Year turns.

    • I love that! Each turn of the Wheel definitely helps us attune with what is happening in the natural world! I hope you have a very Blessed Lughnasadh today!

  2. Happy Lughnasadh/Blessed Lammas! I have a lot going on today lol so probably won’t be able to do the rituals that I’d like to do— but as a kitchen witch, I usually try to bake some sort of bread and do an oracle reading. If there’s time, I might at least make some scones before work 🧡
