Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s Tarot Thursday post is all about embracing the Empress energy for Leo season, which just began on the 22nd. So, now that we are in Leo season, it is the perfect time to discuss the Golden-veiled energy of the Empress!
This is the aspect of the Empress archetype that is encapsulated by Rhiannon when she appears to Pwyll in order to prevent being married to a man she does not want to be forced to marry. Rhiannon is garbed in a Golden veil, showing her nature as both a Faery Queen and a Solar Goddess in this first appearance in The Mabinogion! This is also related to Aine, the Irish Faery Queen Goddess who is also a Solar Goddess. Aine gave birth to wheat as if it were a baby, and the Golden tone of the wheat shows much the same connection to Solar energy as Rhiannon’s Golden veil does!
This Leo season Empress Energy is the Lion-hearted Faery Queen, who is intent on marrying the King to bless his rulership, but only the King she herself chooses. After all, the Faery Queen Goddess is at her heart a Sovereignty Goddess, who cannot be forced to marry against her will, as Rhiannon displayed in her tale. She is the Land made Manifest, as is common with Faery Queen Goddesses who embody the Empress. The regal and noble nature of the Lion is at the heart of Leo season in general, and when we connect that Lioness energy to the Empress energy, we have a very potent force of abundance to work with! This is the Empress as she appears as the counterpart to the Emperor during Lughnasadh, which occurs in the sign of Leo on August 1st. As a side note, I feel very connected to this aspect of Empress and Faery Queen energy, as I am a Leo Rising!
We are still feeling the heat of the height of Summer, but Lughnasadh is the first harvest festival, which begins the signal that even as the Sun is at its peak, Autumn is not far away. I love this beginning of the transition to Autumn, as everyone knows that is my favorite season, with Spring being a close second. I firmly believe that we can embody Faery energy, and Empress energy all year round, and that is why I wanted to write about how the Empress specifically relates to Leo season today!
