Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s Tarot Tuesday post is a look at the Major Arcana Tarot card I find most exemplifies each of the eight Wheel of the Year holidays! I have put a lot of thought into which Tarot card I think best aligns with each holiday, as it is very common to have each holiday aligning with several cards. However, as I adore plotting the Wheel of the Year with single icons of different types for each holiday, I chose to pick my favorite card to align with each day. Without further ado, let’s travel the Wheel of the Year with the Major Arcana!
Samhain: DEATH (13)
~We begin our journey on the Witches New Year at Samhain. This is the time when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest. That is why I have chosen the Death card to represent this very sacred time of the final harvest when the world begins to go into its deep slumber!
Yule: THE HERMIT (9)
~At Yule, we are firmly in our deep introspection and hibernation that Winter’s cold weather brings. There is no better card to represent this introspective energy than the Hermit card, as I always view him as the Wise Man in the Woods spending his days meditating in solitude!
Imbolc: JUDGEMENT (20)
~For Imbolc, I have chosen the Judgement card because the energy I most associate with this card is that of renewal and resurrection. This is ideal for Imbolc as it is the time of year when the world is beginning to get slightly warmer and readying itself for the oncoming Spring!
Spring Equinox: THE MAGICIAN (1)
~For Spring Equinox, I have chosen the Magician because he is the Master of Manifestation, and the Earth herself is quite literally manifesting new growth. The Magician is the active source of magick and he works well with the magick that begins to take place in the world at this Equinox!
Beltane: THE EMPRESS (3)
~There is no better card for Beltane in my opinion! The Empress is all about abundance, prosperity, and the sexuality and sensuality of being at one with the world. That is exactly how Beltane feels to me as well!
Midsummer: THE EMPEROR (4)
~For Midsummer I have chosen the Emperor, as this is the height of the Summer and the Emperor is the ultimate God of the Woodland, making me think of Green Man energy a lot. This powerfully masculine energy feels like it is at home as the world is expelling so much energy so quickly during the Summer months!
Lughnasadah: THE SUN (19)
~For Lughnasadah I have chosen the Sun card, as this is the holiday most associated with Solar Gods, and even takes place when the Sun is in Leo, the Zodiac sign ruled by the Sun. This first harvest festival feels the most warm and sunny of all to me, hence my choice of this card!
Autumnal Equinox: THE HIGH PRIESTESS (2)
~Finally, for the Autumnal Equinox, I have chosen the High Priestess. She gives off the much more feminine and receptive aspect of magick to the Magician’s active magick. Hence she is here at the portal to the darkening half of the year, as he is at the portal to the lightening half of the year!
~I hope you have enjoyed reading my musings on why each of these cards aligns with each holiday. What card do you most feel encapsulates each holiday? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
