Mermaid Summer: Reading & Watchlist
Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post, as a Siren Saturday treat, is about what to read and watch to make the most out of Summer as Mermaid Season!
Reading List:
The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen
~Of course, I could not make a list of Mermaid readings without including the most iconic example of a Mermaid story of all time! This is the much darker counterpart of the Disney film!
How to Become a Mermaid by Elyrria Swann
~This is an adorable little book about how the author went about connecting to the energies of Water and Mermaids!
The Mermaid Handbook by Carolyn Turgeon
~This is a lovely book that is gorgeously illustrated (and with beautiful photography). The book covers so much Mermaid legends, lore, and pop culture, that it is a treat for every Mermaid fan!
The Romance of the Faery Melusine translated by Gareth Knight
~I could not forget to include this translation of the iconic French legend of the Faery Melusine, who famously has a Mermaid form she takes every Saturday!
Mermaid Magic by Lucy Cavendish & Serene Conneelley
~Finally, for books, I have to recommend this book all about connecting to the magick of the Waters and of Mermaids! It is such a lovely book that has both practical advice for communing with the Mermaids and plenty of lore!
Watchlist:
The Little Mermaid (1989)
~Of course, I had to also recommend the Disney cartoon of this iconic Mermaid tale!
Splash! (1984)
~Probably my very favorite Mermaid live-action film of all time! I adore this little Mermaid romance film. Plus I think we all would have preferred to take our human lover to the Ocean with us instead of living forever on land with him if we were lucky enough to be Mermaids!
Miranda (1948)
~This is an adorable classic Mermaid film from Britain that features a very flirty and fun Mermaid protagonist!
Mad About Men (1954)
~This one is actually the sequel to the film above, the two make for a very fun double feature!
Charmed Season 5 Episode 1: A Witches Tail (2002)
~Finally, I just had to feature this awesome episode of my all time favorite show! It is an episode that is a double episode, so it is the length of a film, making for an ideal watch as a little standalone movie if you would like!
