Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is about how the Icons we feel pulled towards during our formative years can impact of Spiritual Growth and Life Paths! I know this is a bit of a strange topic, but I do love delving into strange topics, so I hope this will be interesting for everyone to read. As always, the best way I can think of to analyze this topic is through my own personal experiences. With that being said, let’s look at some of my favorite Icons of history and pop culture for more insight.
ANNE BOLEYN: Iconic Queen of England
~So, my long-time readers will know that Anne Boleyn is my all-time favorite Queen. I find her story so inspiring, inspiring as much as it is tragic that is. She was insanely intelligent, stylish, well-spoken, sensual, flirty, and ambitious. All of this made her a woman that Henry VIII could not resist, but her feisty nature and her intellect also proved to be her undoing, as she was not willing to step aside as Henry bedded other women! I first learned of Anne Boleyn when I was a young girl, we are talking elementary school age here, and loved to read about English and French Royal History. I was immediately taken by her tale, and that fascination has never waivered, so it is easy to say that she has become a major inspiration in my life, from connecting with her coronation motto ‘La Plus Heureuse’ or ‘The Most Happy’ which has meant many things to me as I have grown up, to studying her life and downfall, to even being inspired by the accusations that she was a witch (since after all she was an enchanting and powerful Queen)!
MARILYN MONROE: Iconic 50s Screen Siren
~Next, there is Marilyn Monroe. So, this is a unique one on this list, as I honestly cannot think of a time when I did not know who Marilyn Monroe was! My mother is a huge lover of classic films, so I grew up watching the classics as a very small child, and my favorites were always ones starring Marilyn, as she lit up the screen. As I got older, I began to study her life story, reading every biography I could get my hands on beginning in junior high school. I saw all her films, and listened to her songs and interviews, completely enchanted by this woman who exuded magick just by being photographed! I have long held immense empathy for her tragic life and even more tragic fate and that has inspired me to live my life on my own terms and live my life to the fullest!
ELIZABETH TAYLOR & RICHARD BURTON: Iconic Acting Couple
~When it comes to Utter Romance, nothing beats seeing Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton ignite the screen together! As a lifelong hopeless romantic, I was utterly enthralled the first time I saw these two on screen together, you could see the love and sexual chemistry coming off of them in waves, and I realized this is what True Love looks like on screen, and as a very tiny little girl, I knew I wanted a Love that deep some day! That is the way they have truly impacted me as I grew up, even knowing that they did not end up together, I firmly believe that their love never died!
JIM MORRISON: Iconic Rock God & Poet
~Ah, so Jim Morrison proved to be a sexual awakening for me just as I hit puberty, as that was the time I discovered the Doors! His voice, his lyrics, his deeply poetic nature, and then seeing his photo and video footage of him had me hooked. In fact, I once wanted to write about the impact of hearing the music of the Doors for the first time for an art class assignment in college, only to realize it would be wholly inappropriate to do so! I will always be grateful to the music and voice of Jim Morrison for what he taught me about my own desires, finally bringing the love and romance-obsessed girl full circle. My husband still jokes about my long-lived fascination with Jim Morrison, telling me that he feels very secure, especially since all of my celebrity crushes are dead! I truly have found the right man, one who can make me feel love and desire like no other, and even find humor in my teenage crushes!
STEVIE NICKS: Iconic Singer, Songwriter, & White Witch
~Finally, last but not least, I just had to write about Stevie Nicks here! She is my favorite singer and songwriter. The White Witch whose lovely and sometimes haunting voice has proved to inspire my own magickal path. Beyond that, her style and stage presence have certainly also gone on to inspire some of my own fashion choices. I cannot say enough about what Stevie Nicks and her music mean to me, and to many in the witchy, magickal, and spiritual communities, beyond she definitely deserves her spot here as one of the icons who has had a deep impact on my life!
