White, Red, and Black Springs of Avalon: Tending Our Inner Wells

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is about how we can use the imagery of the White, Red, and Black Springs of Avalon to tend to our own Inner Wells. In this way, we can become our own Well Maidens, communing with the Waters of the Soul!

WHITE SPRING

~In Glastonbury, there is located the famed White Spring, which has calcium-rich waters and is known for its immense healing properties. The concept of this purifying White Spring is not just about the physical location in Glastonbury but also is seen as an integral part of Avalonian spirituality as a whole. White is one of the primary colors of Faery, with White animals and flowers having a particular significance to Faerylore. The color White often shows up to begin a quest in old legends! Therefore the White Spring is the energy that purifies us and sets us on the path towards beginning new phases of our own transformation!

RED SPRING

~In Glastonbury, the Chalice Well is also known as the Red Spring due to its Red iron oxide-rich waters, also known for their healing properties. Just like with the White Spring, the Red Spring as an Avalonian concept goes far beyond its real-world location in Glastonbury. The energy of the Red Spring is the energy of life blood, and the vitality of our own bodies. The White Spring is often seen as the nourishing breast milk of the Goddess, with the Red Spring being the live-giving menstrual blood of the Goddess! The color Red also has special significance in Faerylore, with Red signifying the presence of Faery, often with the Fae donning Red clothing or having Red Hair!

BLACK SPRING

~The Black Spring is said to possibly exist, hidden beneath the land but never found in Glastonbury. However, the Black Spring in Avalonian belief is the Cauldron of Becoming, it is the deepest watery depths we delve into to confront the Shadows and traumas held within our own souls in order to gain insight. Black is the third color most often associated with the presence of Faery in old folklore, with the color being associated with the challenges being placed upon your path. In overcoming these challenges, you can evolve to greater heights of your soul unfolding!

~As you can see, meditating on the nature of the White, Red, and Black Springs will help us to integrate our traumas, and reach new potential. We can tend the Wells of Our Soul, without the need for a physical Water Well to Tend, although one day I would love to have a Well on my Property to make this metaphorical tending physical in nature as well! There is so much beauty held in the depths of the Well, truly a meeting place of Water and Earth, for it is a place holding much Water, but found in the uterine depths of Mother Earth.
