‘The Ancient Art of Faery Magick’ Book Review

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings.   Today’s post is a book review of The Ancient Art of Faery Magick by D.J. Conway!   This is my most recent read of a new to me Faery-related book.   I actually got this as one of my anniversary presents from my husband, who knew it had been on my wishlist to add to my library of Faery books for quite some time.

Now, onto the actual review.   I really enjoyed the writing style of the author, whose books I have read a handful of.    The book is very much centered on personal experience and things that the author learned through her own work with the Fae, rather than diving deeply into older folklore and history.      To be clear, that is not a bad thing, I love books on magickal topics that include deeply personal experiences and share the author’s own beliefs, as sharing our spirituality is a great way to connect with one another.    My only issue is if an author does not make it clear that they are sharing information based on personal experience, presenting it more as rooted in academic study.   This author made it very clear that the information contained in this book is rooted in her own experience learning from the Fae, making it one of my favorite types of books to read based on personal experience!

The actual content of the book is laid out nicely, having meditations interspersed throughout the text.   There are chapters on defining what a Faery is, how to find and befriend the Fae, opening doors into Faeryland, and even final chapters that end with Faery crafting projects and short stories about Faeries to read through the Wheel of the Year celebrations!   I quite enjoyed how specific the author was when describing the difference between types of Fae Folk, even if they do not necessarily align with my definitions or experiences.   After all, our experiences are all valid and the Fae are ever-shifting, liminal, and at times quite tricksy, meaning they may appear to us in many different ways!

At the end of the day, this is a lovely compendium of Faery knowledge based on a lifelong love of and connection to the Fae Folk.    The book has many aspects that can easily be adapted to incorporate into an already thriving Faery practice, making it a good read for even those, like myself, who are more seasoned at interacting with the Fae folk and Faery Goddesses.    I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a bit more enchantment in their lives, as well as anyone just beginning their journey towards communing with the Fae Folk!   I hope you have enjoyed this review of The Ancient Art of Faery Magick by D.J. Conway.    Have you read this book?   Do you want to read it now?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
