The Justice Card in Tarot

Welcome to day five of Tarot Week here at White Rose of Avalon my Darlings!    Today’s post is about the Justice card in Tarot.   The Justice card is the eleventh card of the Major Arcana.   It is obviously a card of justice, as the name suggests.   However, this card is not just about justice in a more mundane sense, like the court system, instead, it also pertains to Divine Truth and Justice!

The Justice card usually depicts a woman who is the representative of fairness in all forms.    My favorite version of the Justice card is from The Arthurian Tarot where the card is named Sovereignty, and is the literal embodiment of the Sovereignty of the land!    The concept of Lady Sovereignty and Lady Justice is linked in many ways, so I think having Sovereignty on the Justice card in this deck is ideal.   The Sovereignty aspect also aligns with the fact that the Justice card is traditionally one of balance and responsibility.   Sovereignty Goddesses are well known for being the granters of the right to rule upon Kings, so they are literally entrusting responsibility onto the King!   On a deeper level, Sovereignty can also take away that responsibility if it is not being handled well, or if the Sovereignty Goddess or land has been disrespected.   In this way, Lady Sovereignty is quite literally acting as an arbiter of justice and fair rule in her desire to protect the land!

When the Justice card appears in a reading, she is usually there to assure that even through trials and tribulations fairness and justice will win out in the end.    This makes for a positive addition to most readings, as she is there to show that no matter how difficult life has been lately balance will be restored.   I tend to find the Justice card to be rather comforting with her energy being one of realignment and Sovereignty, as she serves as a reminder to embrace your personal Sovereignty as well as to find solace in the concept of Divine Truth and Justice!

I hope you have enjoyed this very short look at the energy of the Justice card in Tarot.    What aspect of the Justice card do you feel is most important?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
