Water, Earth, & Roses: Elements of Priestess & Enchantress Paths

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings.   Today’s post is about combining special aspects of your personal magick into your Priestess and Enchantress Path.    We all have our own blends of elements that make up our most central sacred selves.    Which of the four elements do we connect with, or maybe two, plus the other Sacred Soul truths we hold?    For myself, this includes being very ruled by Water and Earth, magickally speaking, like a Mermaidenly Well Maiden and Water Priestess combined with a Green Enchantress and Herbalist energy making the central line of my magick.    As for Priestess Archetypes, I am equal parts Lover and Underworldly, the Rose Priestess Lover energy meeting the Shadowy Underworld nature of the endless cycle of life and death!

Ever since I was a young girl, I always felt a deep connection to Water.   I taught myself how to swim when I was little, and I loved visiting the beach to smell the salty air, collect seashells, and play in the waves.   This love of Water was also undeniable in my adoration of visiting other Water locations, including lakes and streams.   I even lived near a river, which I loved meditating next to, for several years!   So that is why Water has been the element I am most connected with, and has been a deep part of my spiritual path ever since I began on my path. Water has an obviously deep connection with the Path of Avalon, given that Avalon herself is an island and that Morgan le Fay is a Goddess deeply connected to Water, with her name even meaning ‘Sea Born’!

Next, I began to really grow close to Earth as an element.    I have always been a tree hugger, quite literally, and have forever loved exploring the forest.    That is what made me intrigued with the Green path of magick when beginning my spiritual journey.   While I felt most attuned to Water, the connection to plants and trees certainly shows an early affinity for herbalism and the Earth element.   What really served as a breakthrough for me was signing up for my very first herbalism class last year.   I really deepened into the Earth element in a huge way during my nine-month journey in Herbs of Avalon, which is largely documented here throughout many posts.   The Path of Avalon has a deep resonance with herbalism and herbal knowledge, even from the reference in Vita Merlini stating that the Ninefold Sisterhood is skilled in herbal lore. Lastly, in connection to the Earth element, I will state that there was a point when I was uncertain which element I had a closer bond with, before realizing that largely my bond with Water and Earth is nearly equal!

Finally, I want to briefly discuss the energy of Roses in magick and Priestess work.   Obviously, as a plant, the Rose is very attuned with love and romance.    This relates to the Lover Priestess’s energy quite well, embracing romance and love in all of its forms.   Roses feature predominately in several Priestess lineages from Aphrodite, to Mary Magdalene, to Avalon!   This is why I think I have felt such an adoration for these beautiful blooms in both my day-to-day life and more importantly in my magickal and spiritual path.   White Roses are my favorite flowers and sacred to Avalon, hence the name of this website (along with a reference to the White Rose of York, as I love that era of history).   To embrace the energy of the Rose magickally is to deepen into the depth of the Well of Divine Feminine Wisdom!   Finally, I want to mention that although the Rose is best remembered for her sweet smell and beauty, connected to love, this flower also has thorns that protect the plant.   I should mention that technically, botanically speaking Rose thorns are not thorns at all, but ‘prickles’ due to the botanical definition for thorn meaning something much stronger than the small Rose thorn.   The thorn, or prickle, of the Rose gives the plant energy protective bite, and therefore can be used magickally as such!

I hope you have enjoyed this short exploration of Water, Earth, and Roses in the Priestess and Enchantress Paths.   What is your favorite element to deepen into for a magickal connection?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
