Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is an update on my progress on my herbalism education journey, as I am in a new Business Herbalism Course. This post is also about how studying herbalism can be a salve for the soul. As I have discussed in previous posts, the Business Herbal Course I have been studying is through the Herbal Academy. I have currently finished the first unit, out of seven units, of study in this class. I have already gained so much inspiration moving forward in the class and with my future business plans!
I am beginning to really realize that studying herbalism is not only a great way to help me in building my future business, but it is also an excellent way to heal my soul. While the herbs themselves are famous as ‘the people’s medicine’, even the time spent in the academic study of herbs and even the business end of things has really helped my sense of accomplishment. No matter how much work it is, studying in a Business Herbal Course is something that is truly making an impact on my well-being and my ability to build a great business in the future!
Beyond being something that helps build a business, helps in a sense of accomplishment, and learning more in-depth how to use herbs to create great products, I am also soothing my soul (as I stated above). The question may be, how can gaining academic knowledge and putting my newfound herbal knowledge into action soothe the soul? My answer is that I am so delighted that I have found something that I am truly passionate about and that I have taken to rather naturally. I love experimenting with herbs and creating herbal products for myself to use and to hopefully, one day sell to others. This passion was truly ignited when I was studying in Herbs of Avalon last year, that is the nine-month herbalism course taught by Suzanne O’Gara. Now that I am in a self-paced course, I feel the freedom to take my time and really engage with the work, but I also do not feel restricted to slow down when I am ready for the next bit of information. I know that I can move as fast as I desire during the parts of the class that I have absorbed more quickly! While self-paced courses are not for everyone because you have to be self-motivated to really dig into the course and not fall behind, I find that I get a lot out of self-paced coursework. Of course, having a live teacher is equally amazing, if not more so, which is why I am so glad I got to study with Suzanne O’Gara for nine months last year. That was a truly amazing way to deepen into my herbal knowledge, and I grew so much during that class! She also even vetted herbalism schools for me, which is how I came to choose Herbal Academy after much thought.
I am so happy to be spending my Spring, and the upcoming months, nourishing my soul through studying herbalism and working towards opening my own shop online! I hope you have enjoyed this short reflection on my herbalism journey thus far. What are some of your favorite herbs to work with? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

I’ve always been interested in herbal lore. I recall being a child and having my grandfather tell me about the medicinal benefits of different herbs. I hope some day I’ll be able to set aside enough time to do a thorough study. As it is, I’m a bit “hit and miss” with it all. And very grateful for those like you who devote the time to study and are then willing to share your knowledge.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! I hope you will be able to find time to study more one day, I have found that when the time is right the herbal allies we need come to us. Thanks for reading and commenting!
