Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is all about the power of the Queen of Cups as an archetype, an archetype I feel honestly just as drawn to as the Queen of Pentacles! I find this Tarot archetype to be a perfect balance point for the Queen of Pentacles. I have called Queen of Pentacles by primary Tarot archetype for a year now, and that is true, but I find that balancing that archetype with Queen of Cups energy makes for a perfect alignment between Earth and Water elemental energies!
Now, we can state that Queen of Cups is my technical secondary Tarot archetype, but like with the elements of Earth and Water, I have found that lately, I have been seeing a balance in my connection to both archetypes. After most of my life firmly entrenched in a very Watery energy, last year I finally deepened into my connection to the Earthy energy as well, and now I am able to find the balance between the two! I wanted to preface this by explaining that process since my writing and spiritual journey are often chronicled here on White Rose of Avalon as I ebb and flow in my practices and reach new heights of development.
The Queen of Cups as an archetype can best be described as a Guiding Dream or Vision. She is the vastly emotional and romantic Queen who is ruled by her emotions and is often associated with sensuality, sexuality, fertility, and prophecy. As you can easily see, there are crossovers with the Queen of Pentacles archetype in having sexuality and fertility associated with both. What sets the Queen of Cups apart is the vastly deep well of emotions, her reliance on her own intuition, and the connection to psychic ability!
By connecting to the Queen of Cups archetype, we are truly embracing our own instincts and intuition. We are also embracing the idea of being guided by prophecy, a dream, or a vision that will allow us to grow into the most self-actualized version of ourselves through the watery alchemy of embracing our intuitive natures. She is the Water Fae guarding the Sacred Well in the forest, awaiting a Knight that she can test, and likely fall in love with. She is the Water Fae living in the Lake, ready to bestow the Sacred Weapons upon a fierce warrior or raise him within her watery abode if he is young and orphaned. The Queen of Cups rules over not only her own emotions but helps others to see how their emotions are controlling them. Queen of Cups provides emotional support, creative inspiration, and endless compassion to those who are lucky to call her friend or lover! Becoming your most emotionally stable and intuitively aware self will help you become the prophetess who helps guide your loved ones into new phases of transformation!
I want to finish off by acknowledging that I have explained that the Queen of Pentacles is a very specific aspect of the Empress’s energy, being the abundant and fertile Flower Bride and May Queen, who will eventually become the High Queen and mother side of the Empress. I also am of the opinion that the Queen of Cups is a very specific aspect of the High Priestess’s energy, being the intuitive, sexual, and prophetic side of the High Priestess. In the case of each Queen, Pentacles and Cups, we see them embody the sexual and emotional parts of the Major Arcana Divine Feminine archetypes. The other two Queens of the Tarot would be the other side of Empress and High Priestess energy (Wands for Empress and Swords for High Priestess).
I hope you have enjoyed this short introduction to the Queen of Cups as an archetype. Do you resonate with her watery and emotional energy? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
