Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is about the process of finding Sacred Symbols that are personal to us, instead of simply relying on the common ones. We can incorporate common Sacred Symbols into a series of Personal Sacred Symbols to enhance our Spiritual Journey! Let’s look at some of the possible Sacred Symbols you could use in your spiritual journey.
PENTAGRAM/PENTACLE
~I had to begin by stating that the pentagram, or pentacle as it is called if the star is surrounded by a circle, is the iconic five-pointed star. It has been used in spirituality and magickal practices since time immemorial. Many magickal practitioners choose this as their primary symbol or use others in conjunction with it.
TRIQUETRA
~The triquetra is the symbol best known to many as the symbol that graces the famed Book of Shadows on my favorite television show Charmed. It is a very old symbol used to invoke all sorts of triplicity (maiden mother crone, birth death rebirth, etc), making it a good choice for a trio of sister witches. The usage of this symbol in the series has made it a favorite of not only Celtic witches, as this is technically a Celtic knot, but also any magickal worker who is a fan of the show!
TRISEKLE/TRISKELION
~Another symbol of triplicity this one is known as the triple spiral. It is another old Celtic symbol that is often chosen by different types of Celtic magickal practitioners and spiritual seekers. The spiral is often related to women’s mysteries and is a reference to walking the Labyrinth (which is a common spiritual practice).
FLEUR DE LIS
~This one is a little different, but I think it could be easily incorporated into spiritual practices. The fleur de lis is an old French symbol that depicts a lily and is often related to French nobility. It is likely most remembered as a symbol of the city of New Orleans. This is a great choice for French-loving spiritual seekers and can be used as a triplicity symbol due to its three petals, or it can be used as a connection to royal archetypes and nobility.
CELTIC CROSS
~Another big choice made for Celtic spiritual seekers, the Celtic Cross is a cross with Celtic knot work. A great choice for those wanting to incorporate Christian symbology into a Celtic-based spiritual practice!
SILVER WHEEL
~The Silver Wheel is the wheel with Celtic knot work symbolizing the Moon and the cycles of fate and destiny which is linked to Arianrhod in Welsh Celtic myth and legend due to her name meaning Silver Wheel. It is a lovely choice for Avalonian spiritual paths and Celtic-based belief, as well as for anyone who holds the Moon as a primary element of their magickal practice!
ASTROLOGICAL/PLANETARY SYMBOL
~This one is not a specific symbol, but many. This is great for those looking to deepen their connection to their astrological chart, those looking to connect to a specific deity that is associated with the planet, and those looking to connect with the energy of the planet or sign!
VESICA PISCES or CHALICE WELL SYMBOL
~Now, this is one of my most Personal Sacred Symbols, along with the last one I will discuss below! The Vesica Pisces is a symbol showing two interlocking rings and is a powerful Divine Feminine Symbol and also has associations with sacred sexuality. It is the main part of the Chalice Well Symbol, with flowers and a line down the center (symbolizing a sword). I find the Chalice Well Symbol and the Vesica Pisces in general to be one of the most grounded and intensely beautiful Divine Feminine Symbols to connect to the feminine elements of Earth and Water! It is a perfect choice for anyone on the Avalonian Path.
FAERY STAR aka ELVEN STAR aka SEPTAGRAM
~Finally, I had to include my beloved Faery Star. It is also known by its geometric name Septagram and the term Elven Star! It is a seven-pointed star that is said to be the portal to Faery Realms. The seven points can be seen as representing anything that comes in sevens, the primary planets of astrology, the days of the week, the chakras, or even the seven deadly sins (if you want to work with that sort of energy). Not only does this star have the name of being Faery or Elven in nature, but it also has a very Fae energy and feeling to it! It is a beautiful symbol that is often said to remind people of the North Star, or at least I often get that comment when I wear my Faery Star pendant. This is an ideal choice for anyone on the Avalonian Path, any Celtic path, or anyone wanting to seek a connection to the Fae folk!
