Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is all about why I tend to revisit classic films in the Winter months, and why you may want to do so yourself! As a huge classic film fan and lover of Old Hollywood, I have long adored watching my favorite classics all year round, but there is something so special about watching Old Hollywood icons working their craft during the Winter months. I am going to go over my top three reasons why I always make plenty of time on cold Winter nights to watch my favorite classic films during the Winter. Without further ado, here’s my list of reasons to watch the classics!
Reason 1: OLD FILMS PROVIDE COZY ATMOSPHERE
~There is just something incredibly warm and cozy about watching old films, in general. They provide the perfect atmosphere to cuddle up with warm scented candles and a soft blanket, making for a great way to embrace the internal nature of Winter!
Reason 2: MORE TIME INDOORS PROVIDES MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR WATCHING FILMS, ESPECIALLY WITH LOVED ONES
~In the Winter, we begin to lack ways to spend time outdoors due to inclement weather. The fact that more time is spent indoors means that there is plenty of time to explore all of those incredible classic films that we love, or to discover a new love for the old classics! I love introducing people who have never experienced classic films to some of my favorites and growing the community of those who appreciate the classic Old Hollywood films. So whether you are already a lover of classic films, or you have never seen a movie more than thirty years old, the time spent indoors during Winter provides an opportunity to develop an appreciation for them. It is also very fun to watch classic films with loved ones who also appreciate them, which is something my husband and I love doing together!
Reason 3: LOVE OF CLASSICS IS PART OF MY FAERY LIFESTYLE
~This final reason to revisit classic films in the Winter, and also in general, is for those interested in what I call the Faery Lifestyle. Although it may seem unlikely that Old Hollywood films would relate in any way to the Faery Lifestyle, I can assure you that Faery Lifestyle and Old Hollywood are two loves of mine that can be easily linked. To watch classic films is to see the images of the past play before our eyes, we often literally see the Dead come alive again through their recorded works! It is a way to time-travel in our own homes, to see how life was in decades or even a century before our present times. This feeling of timelessness, or being in a time outside of time, is an example of Liminality. Liminality is a primary component of Faery lore and Faery lands, time moves differently and the most magick comes from the betwixt and between! All of this proves the connection between classic films and the Faery Lifestyle!
