Gryla’s Yuletide: A Poem

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings.   Today’s post is a poem about the Winter folklore figure Gryla.

Gryla’s Yuletide

by Maranda Wabik

Gryla’s Yule Lads

Ready themselves for much mischief to come

Sneaking into houses to cause chaos

Making their mother, Gryla proud

Those wishing to protect themselves from the Yuletide mischief

Must remember to honor traditions

Evergreen trees are decked

Wreaths of holly & mistletoe are hung with flair

The Yule Log is prepared

A Feast is going to begin

In the weeks following

The parade of Krampus

This Yuletide Festivity

Is one full of revelry

If not as raucous as a Saturnalia Bacchanal!
