Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings! Today’s post is an analysis comparing the Enneagram type 7 and the number 7 in the Tarot. As an Enneagram 7 myself I have found it rather interesting that the usage of the number 7 within the Tarot seems to utilize aspects of the personality of the Enneagram 7.
The Enneagram 7 is the enthusiastic and excitement-seeking personality type. Enneagram 7 is all about experiences, gaining insights and knowledge through experiencing the world around them. This links very strongly with the first Tarot card that we encounter in the deck that is associated with the number 7, which is in the Major Arcana. The Major Arcana card numbered 7, at least in most decks, is the Chariot card. The Chariot is all about forward momentum and is energetically exciting. Chariot energy will pull you into new experience after new experience, which is exactly what the heart of the Enneagram 7 personality is! In some decks, this card is renamed, but the energy of forward momentum and striving for the next great experience is kept intact.
Moving onto the Minor Arcana, the 7 of Wands is the card that is associated with rivalry and learning to work together in order to complete a task. This brings in an important aspect of the energy of Enneagram 7. 7s are famous for their tendency to overdo, being associated with the sin of gluttony (in this case overdoing and overindulgence in every realm, not just eating), and for having a perfectionistic aspect, due to their stress point being Enneagram 1, which can lead them to desire to do everything for themselves. When Enneagram 7 grows in health, delegating tasks to others and learning to work together becomes much easier!
The 7 of Swords is a card of betrayal and deception but can be counteracted with diplomacy. Traditionally this card depicts a person taking on way too much by themselves. This again relates to the Enneagram 7 having the tendency to become perfectionistic and hard on themselves. When Enneagram 7 becomes healthier, they will be more likely to avoid the betrayal of others by acting with diplomacy and setting firmer boundaries for themselves, not just saying yes to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, which can happen when Enneagram 7 takes on too much, very similarly to this card’s energy.
The 7 of Cups is a card of illusion, imagination, and delusion. I adore the way this card relates to the Enneagram 7 and the aspect of inspiration, imagination, and endless possibilities. Due to the forward momentum and focus of energy on future possibilities and new experiences, avoiding potential boredom, which can lead to falling for illusion or into delusion, but it can also spark the imagination of the Enneagram 7! This card is very powerfully related to this aspect of the Enneagram 7 personality because it has varied positive and negative meanings.
The 7 of Pentacles is a card of patience, prudence, and slowly tending to affairs. This relates to a unique aspect of the Enneagram 7, as it relates to the growth of health for the type and ways in which 7s can work on themselves to become more aligned. The intense desire to seek new experiences can often make the Enneagram 7 feel far removed from the present moment and always seeking new thrills instead of appreciating what is currently happening. The 7 of Pentacles advises care and prudence be taken in order to slowly tend the garden of your soul and gain deeper insights over a longer period of time! As an Enneagram 7 myself, I find that this card has an energy that can teach me lessons about slowing down, living in the present moment, and enjoying the patient unfolding of new dreams and endeavors. It is an excellent reminder that we need not rush our growth and expansion into the best version of ourselves!
