Have Yourself a Spooky Little Yuletide with These Films & Television Episodes

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings.   Since it is officially December, I have decided that today’s post will be full of my personal recommendations on some fun and spooky things to watch this Yule season.   After all, I am less the traditional ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ type and more the ‘Have Yourself a Spooky Little Yuletide’ type!    Now, I do actually like some of the traditional holiday films, especially the romantic ones, as romance is my second favorite film genre after horror, but I also need to have spooky fun even during the Yule season.   That is where the idea for doing this list of recommendations for all of my readers!   There will not be any rankings here, but I will mention my favorite of each section, and I will be dividing the list into films and television sections.   Without further ado, let’s get onto the recommendations.

~Films~

TILL DEATH (2021)

~This film from two years ago is a wintertime horror tale of a woman, played by Megan Fox, who is in a very unhappy marriage.   She awakes the morning after spending a night at a remote vacation home to find that her husband has killed himself and also handcuffed them to one another, meaning she is handcuffed to a corpse!   That is all I will tell you about this film, but it is a truly unsettling film to watch for wintery horror.

SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT (1972)

~This film is one of the holiday horror films of the 70s and it tells the story of a man inheriting a mansion that was once an asylum, making it a very creepy place to live!

KRAMPUS (2015)

~I could not compile this list and not feature this film about the iconic Yuletide demon, often looked at as the anti-Santa Claus!

SNOW WHITE: A TALE OF TERROR (1997)

~I adore this film so much, and I find that it is astonishingly underrated.   It is a very winter-filled version of the Snow White tale, which I find to be a quite wintery tale to begin with.   While it is not a holiday film, which I really love because it is one that I can watch any time of year, not just at Yule, it is a very good choice for the holidays as well!

BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974)

~This one is my favorite holiday horror film!   I used to have a holiday tradition of watching this one every single holiday season, but I had lapsed on watching it for the last few years, but finally got back to watching it again this year.   I am so glad I got a chance to re-ignite this tradition again, as this is a very unsettling horror film about a man terrorizing a sorority house at Christmas time.    It also gets major bonus points for Olivia Hussey’s performance as Jess, who is easily in my top ten final girls of all time!

~Television~

SUPERNATURAL (2005)

S3.E8 ∙ A Very Supernatural Christmas

~I highly recommend this iconic season three episode of Supernatural that sees Sam and Dean fighting off some Yuletide Gods who have been taking sacrifices, after determining that the entity they are fighting is not Krampus.   Now, I love this episode so much, but I really do wish they would have just committed and had the Winchesters fight Krampus!

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (2009)

S4.E9 ∙ O Come, All Ye Faithful

S8.E7 ∙ The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You

~So, my long-time readers will know that I have loved The Vampire Diaries since the very first season aired!   The holiday episodes are so good.   I love seeing Klaus and Caroline interact, and Klaus’s rage-fueled slaughter of his hybrids in the season four episode.   The season eight episode is full of tongue-in-cheek and funny interactions between the Salvatores, Caroline, and Sybil.

THE ORIGINALS (2013)

S2.E9 ∙ The Map of Moments

S3.E9 ∙ Savior

~What I like best about the holiday episodes of The Originals is that they feature sweet references to ancient traditions being carried on for a literal millennium by the Mikaelsons!

LEGACIES (2018)

S2.E8 ∙ This Christmas Was Surprisingly Violent

~The final series in The Vampire Diaries universe had a really enjoyable holiday episode that featured both Santa and Krampus!

THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA (2018)

S1.E11 ∙ Chapter Eleven: A Midwinter’s Tale

~Here it is, my favorite holiday television episode ever!   I adore the eleventh episode of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for all of its inclusion of actual magickal practices around the Yuletide season, as well as the fact that it utilizes actual age-old holiday folklore!

~I hope that you have enjoyed this list of film and television recommendations for having a Spooky Yuletide season.   Did I miss any of your favorite Spooky Yuletide content?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
