Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. Today’s post is a short list of five tips about how to improve your Tarot skills based on how I work with Tarot! Some of these tips may be obvious, while others may seem strange, but all have worked for me. Without further ado, let’s look at each of the tips.
Tip 1: Experiment with Different Decks
~For the Tarot beginner, I think this is the most important tip! Many people may feel pressured in the early days of learning Tarot to choose just one deck and stick with it, or worse to use a specific deck even if that one simply does not suit them. At the end of the day, the Rider Waite Smith deck is not for everyone, and it certainly is not for me! I do own that deck and tried to use this deck in the very beginning, but a month later I got the deck I truly learned on and I have been collecting and using many decks ever since.
Tip 2: Learn the Style of Deck that You Jive With
~As I said, in the beginning, I started with learning on one deck, once I realized the Rider Waite Smith was not for me and I found one that I gravitated towards. Not long after I felt confident in my ability to read, I began to collect more decks, of all sorts. This was great because it allowed me to figure out which styles suited my path. It did not take long to realize that I go for Celtic and Faery-based Tarot decks, unsurprisingly!
Tip 3: Take Suggestions from Friends and Mentors
~This is just a great tip to keep your mind open to new possible decks to build a relationship with. Our friends and mentors in the spiritual community will often have similar tastes to us, so seeing what sort of decks they like to use will give us ample opportunity to find a new Tarot deck to work with!
Tip 4: Hold, Shuffle, and Meditate on Your Cards
~Okay, so for this tip we are going back to the basics. As soon as you get a new deck, it is time to hold it, shuffle it (even when you are not preparing for a reading), and meditate with the cards. These small acts over the first weeks with a new deck help to build a bond between the reader and their deck!
Tip 5: Sleep Near Your Deck
~My final tip may seem like a bit of a strange one. I suggest sleeping near your deck, or even with your deck if that is possible. This serves to heighten the bond between the reader and their deck, just as the previous tip does, however, it is less about physical contact. The reason I believe this works so well is that your deck is near you while you dream, which is naturally a time of heightened intuition, which helps to form a very special link!
