Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings. This week’s Femme Fatale Friday is on the cycle of the seasons relating to the Goddess energy felt throughout the year! For ease, I will be breaking this post down into four sections, one for each seasonal Goddess and Feminine energy. I mention the two Wheel of the Year holidays that correspond with each cycle’s energy. I want to clarify that I believe that the Goddess cycle energy would begin with the first holiday mentioned (the cross-quarter day) and continue to be the primary energy until the next cross-quarter day. Without further ado, let’s get into the Cycle of the Goddess!
~SPRING MAIDEN~
~In the Springtime of the year the world is opening up after the harsh cold of winter. This is why as the weather warms and the flowers begin to bud and bloom, nature is embracing the energy of the Maiden! When women, and Goddesses, are Maidens, they are youthful and innocent. The potential for new growth is limitless with Maiden energy. The Maiden roughly corresponds to Imbolc and the Vernal Equinox (or Ostara) holiday-wise. This perfectly lends itself to the newness and blooming nature of the Vernal Season!
~SUMMER LOVER~
~In the Summer of the year the world is hot and alive with boundless energy, from the sun, the weather (storms), herbs ready to be foraged, and just the energy of fertility. The fertility aspect is why I have stated that I associate Summer with the woman and Goddess as Lover! Lovers are intimately linked with this outpouring of fertility and abundance. The Lover roughly corresponds to Beltane and the Summer Solstice (or Midsummer) holiday-wise!
~AUTUMN QUEEN~
~In the Autumn of the year the world has begun to die off as the air gets crisper and the smell of the air turns to spicy coziness. This is when the woman and the Goddess come into her own as a true Queen, as a side note this can also be aligned to the Mother energy (in that transitory time between Summer Lover and Autumn Queen). She is ripe and ready to harvest all of her creativity and abundance which she has sown throughout the earlier months of the year, just as nature has her three harvest festivals! The Queen roughly corresponds to Lughnasadh and the Autumn Equinox (or Mabon) holiday-wise.
~WINTER CRONE~
~In the Winter of the year the world has died off and it is a time to go within and delve into our own shadows. This is when the woman and the Goddess are in their Crone energy. She has reaped much knowledge and wisdom from all of her experiences over the last year! She is all about the warm and cozy activities to soothe the soul and in her own deep reverie of creative energy when she has the time to devote to indoor activities when the earth is sleeping awaiting the coming Spring! The Crone roughly corresponds to Samhain and the Winter Solstice (or Yule) holiday-wise.
~I hope that you have enjoyed this brief analysis of how the seasons align with Goddess energy and a woman’s life cycle. What is your favorite season? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
