Green Goddess, Green Avalonian Priestess

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings!    Today’s post is going to be all about my own ruminations on walking the Avalonian Green Path as my first herbalism class is coming to an end.    I have been writing about Green Magick and Avalon for months and months now, but as my relationship with herbs, plants, trees, and the land in general continues to grow deeper, I find that I have endlessly more love for the Earth to share!

I have been finding that not only am I growing in the ability and intensity of my herbal practices, but I am also beginning to slowly shape my own unique specialties within herbalism.    It was not long before I realized that my special connection to the Green World and Woodland lay in love and devotion as well as deep psychic and spiritual depth.    What I mean by that is I am at my heart a Lover and Underworld Priestess and Enchantress.    I connect deeply to the sensuous world of feeling and experiencing pleasure, in addition to having a deep connection to the Shadow Realms and the Dead.   Green Goddesses are Goddesses of Fertility, easily linking them to Lover energy.   Yet, they are also the destroyers as much as they are the Creatrix of the Wildwood!    The Green Goddess of Fertility is the life-giver, but she is also the Earth to which we all will be given back upon our deaths.    It is the womb and tomb dichotomy that is often discussed by many Goddess worshippers!

That is why we see many Goddesses of Earth are also seen as Goddesses to hold us within our pain, and even in our Deaths.    Morgan le Fay is a healer who works the land as a Green Goddess (even if she is most potently associated with water), but she is a Psychopomp who is a Queen of Death.    Blodeuwedd is literally made of Flowers, Earth made manifest, but she is also the hunting bird, the Owl initiating us into the knowledge of the cycle of Life, Death, and Rebirth.    Persephone is the Goddess of Spring, but also the Queen of Death and the Underworld!    Each of these Goddesses is a prime example of balancing the idea of honoring life and being associated with fertility alongside the association with death, dying, and the afterlife.

Herbology is a great field of study for those who are looking to deepen their own workings on the Green Path.    In my case, studying herbology through my herbalism course, Herbs of Avalon with Suzanne O’Gara, I felt totally centered in my talents for connecting with the Green Wild World!    I have written about my studies of herbology and my deepening understanding of herbs, trees, and plants several times here on White Rose of Avalon.    Obviously, my main center of study when it comes to working with herbs is Avalonian in nature.    What I mean is that I choose to primarily focus on the plants that would have been in the UK during the ancient time periods and early medieval periods that we associate with the Priestesses of Avalon!    This aligns directly with my practice as a Priestess of Avalon, Priestess of Morgan le Fay, and Priestess of Blodeuwedd.   Additionally, joining the Sisterhood of Avalon this year is another thing that helps to solidify my connection to Green Magick.    The Sisterhood of Avalon takes much stock in utilizing herbs in their celebration of the Avalonian Cycle of Healing, the lunar workings, and the four cross-quarter festivals.    The Ninefold Festival this year was even themed the Realm of Land, making for an incredible connection to my ever-deepening connection to Green Magick!

I hope you have enjoyed this short post where I have shared my ruminations on my Green Priestess Path.     Do you feel a connection to Green Magick?    Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
