Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings! For today’s post, I have decided to put myself into the shoes of the Baddest Bitch of All and give some life advice. That is right, I am using all of my knowledge, gleaned through countless rewatches of The Vampire Diaries, to share some of Katherine Pierce’s greatest Pearls of Wisdom!
~Never Be Afraid to Rebrand Yourself~
~Katherine was born Katerina Petrova, but after she was forced to give up her daughter who was born out of wedlock, she moved to England. After turning into a vampire, she began to go by the name Katherine Pierce! This is how the Salvatores would know her later. She also would take on different looks to suit the time period in which she was currently living, helping to mask the fact that she was an immortal vampire. I think that this ability to adapt is how it was so easy for her to pretend to be Elena, eventually getting so good at this act that no one noticed when she took over Elena’s body when she “died” in the one-hundredth episode!
~Use Your Genetic Gifts to Your Advantage~
~In the case of Katherine Pierce, this means using her beauty to her advantage, which is something most of us do even if we are not conscious of it. Another way that Katherine used her genetic gifts to her own advantage was to pretend to be her doppelgänger, Elena. Most of us cannot pretend to be our family members, but we can use our genetic gifts to keep ourselves healthy! Caring for our bodies to keep them healthy and youthful is a great way to embrace our natural gifts (the strength of our bodies for instance). I also want to add in the usage of natural psychic and magickal gifts, which Katherine learned to do herself when she embraced her Traveler Bloodline. We can each do this if we also have psychic and magickal genetic gifts, which I certainly have learned to do! Embracing and using our psychic and magickal gifts definitely enhances life.
~Befriend Your Admirers, They Can Be Helpful~
~Katherine was always willing to befriend people who seemed to take to her charms. This led to her being able to have many friends who could work as her informants. Not much more to say on this one, people who are charmed by you may be willing to help you down the line.
~Keep Your Ears Open For Knowledge~
~That last tip leads directly into this one, as having informants is one of the best ways to gain insight. Katherine also seemed to be very well-versed in magickal and supernatural lore, which helped her to interpret much of the information that she was given.
~Never Turn Off Your Emotions, Be Brave Enough To Face Them~
~Katherine proudly explained in season four that she never turned off her humanity. This tells us that she was very willing to face up to all of her emotions and work through her shadow desires. In many ways, this makes her a much more balanced and emotional warrior figure than either of the Salvatores, because she never hid her emotions or dark deeds behind a humanity switch that has been flipped off!
~Keep Your Enemies Closer~
~Katherine proved the old adage was in her philosophy when she dated Mason Lockwood. Werewolves naturally hated vampires, making him her enemy, but she used his infatuation to make sure that she could get her hands on the Moonstone! She proved that by keeping her enemy close by, she could predict any evils planned against her, which is smart when you have spent centuries on the run!
~Build Your Own Cult of Personality~
~This tip relates a bit to the last one, as well as to the tip about befriending admirers. Yet, it is still very much its own tip. A Cult of Personality is an aura of intrigue and mystery about yourself that draws others to you like moths to the flame! Katherine easily used her charms and charisma to make people take an interest in her. It is with this interest that the desire to uncover her mystery, which few ever could, allowed Katherine to be several steps ahead. Between her accumulation of knowledge and her cult of personality, she was able to plan out her next steps. Many people were blinded by her Larger Than Life Personality, which allowed her to grow her hold over her admirers. Now, we can use our own charm and charisma in much more benign ways. We need not cause harm, but instead, we can boost our confidence this way, making us feel more sure of ourselves!
~Never Give Up On Love~
~By season five, we see that Katherine never gave up on her love for Stefan Salvatore. Even after all of her pain, she still was a woman who desperately wanted to love and be loved. What is more relatable than that?
~Fight For Your Family~
~Katherine fought for her daughter after being turned, but could not find her. She continued to fight for her when she realized that Nadia was alive! Her building a bond with her daughter showed a side of Katherine that was more loving and protective than we may have expected. Our first hint of this was when we saw her cry in season two over the drawings of her long-dead family! Katherine is much more complex than some would have ever expected.
~’Better You Die Than I’~
~Finally, I had to end this off with a quote from Katherine herself! She was nothing if not a survivor. Being smart about embracing your self-preservational instincts is one of the best ways to keep yourself alive. At the end of the day, Katherine knew how to keep herself alive and relatively safe for centuries. She was able to use her wily nature and canny instincts to keep herself several steps ahead. Now, we do not have to turn our backs on others, like Katherine has many times, instead, we can simply realize that we need not be martyrs. Sometimes choosing ourselves and keeping ourselves safe is much more important than sacrificing our happiness for others! I also call this tip a reminder to Embrace Your Sovereignty!
