Welcome to Day Two of Phantom of the Opera Week here on White Rose of Avalon my Darlings! Today’s topic is my top five favorite songs from the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical. I am not going into a long preamble here, instead, let’s get right to my list!
Number 5: The Point of No Return
~This is a climatic song in the musical, which makes it all the more iconic for musical fans. In some ways, this can be looked at as a villain song, because Erik is done with playing nice and ready to escalate the events, as it has ‘passed the point of no return.’ I adore the song for this reason!
Number 4: Think of Me
~This is one of the more straight romantic songs in the musical. It is sweet and shows much of the love triangle aspect within the story. I like this one for its sweetly romantic and melodic nature!
Number 3: The Music of the Night
~My number three pick is such an iconic number that even the title of the song has become deeply associated with Phantom and the musical in general, even appearing on much merchandise. That is part of why I had to rank it so highly!
Number 2: The Phantom of the Opera
~My number two pick is the titular song, taking place during one of the most iconic and important sequences in the musical. I adore this dark power ballad of a song, and it is one I listen to quite frequently!
Number 1: Masquerade
~No other song could have been my number one! My favorite sequence in the musical, and the source novel, is the Masquerade. So many important things happen during this sequence. Beyond that, I love the drama of this song, and it is my most listened-to Phantom track of all time!
