Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings! This week’s Femme Fatale Friday is also a Friday the 13th, making it the perfect time to discuss the path of Avalonian Priestesses in the modern day. In this post, I will discuss the Priestess, the Enchantress, and the Sorceress and how they overlap!
Firstly, I want to discuss how we truly claim our Priestess natures. We claim our Path of the Priestess of Avalon, most importantly through devotion. This devotion is to Avalon, to our Spiritual work, and to any deities that we work with. In my case, I am devoted to Morgan le Fay as my Matron Goddess and to Blodeuwedd, the Welsh Celtic Flower and Qwl Goddess of Avalon. For other Priestesses, this can be any Welsh Celtic Deity, if they are looking to be specifically an Avalonian Priestess. However, you can look at this heart of devotion to relate to any Priestess Path, as there are even Priestesses who are not devoted to a specific deity or pantheon at all! At the end of the day, taking on the title of Priestess is a very personal choice, and can be done in so many different ways. I also want to mention that there are several ways to initiate as a Priestess. You can certainly go through a specific Priestess training program and get initiated within that tradition. However, you can also choose to self-initiate, or even be initiated by your guiding Goddess or God!
Now that I have discussed claiming the title of Priestess, I want to explain some ways in which you can practice your role of Priestess. Firstly, as an Avalonian Priestess one of the most important ways to practice your Priestesshood is to live an Avalonian-inspired life! We can do this by reading the old legends and literature that speak of Avalon and the Ninefold Sisterhood to figure out the practices undertaken by the Priestesses of Old. A second way to practice our Priestess role is to provide Seership and Oracular work for others seeking guidance. This actually leads directly to the third way that we can practice our Priestess role, and that is to counsel others through difficult times, working as a midwife to pain, and even a midwife to death for those who are going through illness and may pass away soon! Midwives of death can also be the ones to counsel grieving people who have recently lost loved ones. All of these things are equally part of Priestess’s work. A fourth way to practice our Priestess role is to work with healing herbs, in order to help heal ourselves and others. Communion with other people walking spiritual paths both enhances the Priestess path and also aids in providing counsel and comfort to others.
The final two Priestess practices I want to mention are being a proponent of Sacred Sexuality and practicing the Magick of the Enchantress and Sorceress! By embracing our own Sacred Sexuality we can begin to teach others to see their own sexuality as sacred. When it comes to embracing our innate magick, I know that many people will state that in order to be a Priestess you need not be a magickal practitioner, as Priestesshood is spiritual or religious and magick can be secular. However, I find that the path of the Enchantress and Sorceress interlocks perfectly with the path of the Priestess! Maybe this is because the Goddesses I am devoted to are inherently magickal. I do not know if the idea of the Priestess innately being a magickal practitioner is as inherent to the practice within belief systems outside of Avalon! I just know that my magickal path and my spiritual path seem to have always been interlinked.
I do hope that you have enjoyed this short analysis of what it means to me to claim the title of the Priestess. Have a very blessed and Divine Feminine Friday the 13th. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
