Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings!    Today’s post is a review of my most recent read, The Sacred Sex Rites of Ishtar by Annie Dieu-Le-Veut.   I had been recommended this book by one of my readers here quite a while ago, but I just recently got the chance to purchase the book, with some of my birthday money.

I was very happy to see that this book was not just about the ancient lore of Ishtar, but instead goes through sacred sexual shamanic practices throughout many cultures and millennia!    It was truly fascinating to read about the Celtic and Faery-related aspects related to these Sacred Sex Practices.    The fact that the book does not primarily focus on Sacred Sex Rites in the more traditional way, of sex with a partner or even masturbation, is intriguing.

The book is instead focused on the union with the spiritual realm, that is the union between the Fae, Nature, and the Human world.    In this way, the Shaman, or whatever the practitioner prefers to call themselves, will become a conduit to come into alignment with the other realms.    It is a deepening of the connection between humans and the Fae which is at the heart of Sacred Sex Rites, according to the author.    I find that an interesting concept, as a large portion of the book works as an explanation of Sacred Sex Rites being performed as Sovereignty rituals where the Sacred Sex Priestess would embody the Sovereignty Goddess and initiate the King through sexual congress! 

I appreciate the idea put forward that with the usage of these Sacred Sexual Shamanic practices, we can heal ourselves and also come into better alignment with our own sexualities.    At the end of the day, I did truly enjoy this book.   While I did not agree with every idea the author put forward, I do think that much of her insights are useful in deepening your shamanic (astral projection and crossing the hedge) abilities and healing your connection with your own sexuality!    I hope that you have enjoyed this short review of this engaging and insightful book.   Have you read this book?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
