Seasons of the Witch: Samhain Oracle Deck Review

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings!   Today’s post is a review of my newest Oracle Deck, Seasons of the Witch: Samhain Oracle by Lorriane Anderson and Juliet Diaz, and illustrated by Giada Rose.    I bought this for myself as an early birthday present at the beginning of September.   The backs of the cards have a lovely aesthetic and I adore that they have shiny red edges, giving the deck a fun haunted look.

As soon as I acquired the deck, I knew that it had a great energy that I jived with very well.   I also knew that this would be an excellent deck to work with for the whole dark half of the year, not just at Samhain!   I love this deck so much, that I also plan to purchase the Seasons of the Witch: Beltane Oracle from the same authors in a few month’s time to use similarly for the light half of the year!    Samhain, and its Welsh counterpart Calan Gaeaf which is Lunar Samhain, is my favorite holiday of the year.   This is a very common answer for people of witchy natures, but I do truly adore Samhain and its secular counterpart Halloween over any other holiday!    That being said, my second favorite holiday is Beltane, hence why I plan to use the Beltane Oracle for the light half of the year, as a great balance point.

Now that I have gone over my attachment to the deck which I formed quickly, I will get on with reviewing the deck itself.    Seasons of the Witch: Samhain Oracle is a gorgeously illustrated oracle deck that gives all of the dark and shadowy feels that we associate with the dying time of the year, and that dark rest period of the dark half of the year.    I adore the choices of including cards like “Banshee,” “Nature Spirits,” “Apples,” “Pumpkin,” “Owl,” and “Dark Moon” because they give a well-rounded overview of the holiday.   It is not just about ghosts and the dead, although that is a prime point of Samhain, so including Faery, animal, plant, and moon cycle associations within the deck adds depth to the understanding of the Season of the Witch!    The deck reads beautifully as a Shadow Work deck, with great suggestions on spreads to tap into your own unconscious.   So far, I have massively enjoyed getting to know this deck through Shadow Work readings with suggested spreads!    I highly recommend this deck to anyone who wants to tap into their inner Sorceress!

I hope you have enjoyed reading my glowing review of this great Oracle deck.   Have you used this deck?   Are you interested in checking it out now?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
