The Power of Dreams

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings!   For today’s post, I have decided to discuss the power of Dreams and Dream Magickal practices.   Our daily rest at night is a powerful time to heal our bodies and to restore and renew for the next day ahead of us.    This is also a time to help in our learning, which is why some of our mundane dreams feature us going over things that we are attempting to learn in waking life.    However, some of the most potent aspects of Dream Power lie within the insights, wisdom, and inspiration that can be gained through Dream Magick!

Dream Magick can take on many forms, from Astral Projection into another realm, also called Crossing the Hedge, to Oracular and Seer work with Psychic Dreams.   Another aspect of Dream Magick is the desire to induce Lucid Dreams; or dreams where you are aware you are dreaming and therefore can have total control over what is happening!    Dreams have held fascination for as long as people have been alive, largely because we do not know much about the full spectrum of reasons why we dream, but we do know that dreaming is essential to a healthy mind.

Part of what has inspired this particular post is that this month in my herbalism class we are studying several herbs that have associations with Dreams!    Blue Lotus, Mugwort, and Rosemary can all be used in Dream Work to some extent.   Likewise, Vervain is a powerful Druidic herb and Damiana is helpful in healing trauma, which can be done within Dreams.   In fact, when it comes to Shadow Work while healing from trauma, this can often begin with having repressed memories resurface.     The resurfacing of repressed memory happens very often during dreams because our mind is most receptive at that point!    Needless to say, the beautiful herbal allies that I am currently studying have inspired me to do some more depth of Dream Work.

In many ways, Dream Work is some of the earliest spiritual work I ever did, as I began studying dreams in both psychological and metaphysical terms in high school!   It is possibly why I have also had the desire to revisit the Nightmare on Elm Street series recently, and why it has been a favorite horror series since I was in junior high school.   I always held that fascination with the focus on the immense power held within dreams featured in that franchise!   Even my favorite television series of all time, Charmed, did an episode in its first season that dealt with a human man figuring out a way to stalk women in their dreams, killing them when they rejected him.    This is obviously likely to have been inspired by the Nightmare on Elm Street films, in some way, but was different enough to make its own impact on my child’s psyche.   Not to mention, there was another episode of Charmed in its fifth season that dealt with the importance of dreams via the introduction of the Sandman as a very real figure within the show’s universe!   The fascination with dreams never left me, as I have an Associate’s Degree in Psychology, where Dream Interpretation (Freud, but more importantly Jung, and what came out of his theories) and Sexual Psychology were the two topics that I delved most deeply into during my time at College!

All of my childhood and adolescent study of dream meanings in many ways helped lead me more deeply onto my Spiritual Path, as my Prophetic Dreams became something I could not and did not want to ignore!    I also have long been a sort of Dream Counselor to my family and friends, helping them to find meaning within their own subconscious through Dream Interpretation (or even just listening to them describe their dreams).    That is why Dream Work is still such an important aspect of my Spiritual Path, as for me it also connects very deeply with Astral Projection into the Otherworld!   I hope that you have enjoyed this post describing the importance of Dreams in Spiritual Work.   Do you believe in the power of Dreams?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
