Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings! Today’s post is about the need for balance in magick, as well as in life. Life is not just a place of love and light, no matter what some may desire to believe it to be, for it is also a place of shadows. In truth, Light cannot be discerned without Shadow to balance it out!
That is why walking this Avalonian Faery Path with Goddesses, like my most beloved Morgan le Fay and Blodeuwedd, is so centered on balancing the energies of Shadow and Light. Morgan is nothing if not an incredibly powerful Healer and Priestess, while also being a Tricksy and even oft-maligned as only the Baddie of the Arthurian Legends! Likewise, Blodeuwedd is nothing if not a powerful Sovereignty Goddess made of the Flowers of the Land made Manifest, while also being a Fierce and Intelligent Hunting Bird in her Owl form!
I understand why many people fear confronting shadows because with the confrontation also often comes pain, however, it is an important part of the journey to wholeness. The best way to embrace our personal sovereignty is to alchemize the shadows into something new. Acknowledging our weaknesses is often more powerful than acknowledging our strengths, for this is the place from which we can truly grow! I will be the first to state that Shadow Work should not be undertaken if one is not ready to go through this process, or if one is not emotionally ready to confront that pain. However, if you are ready and willing to confront those fears and pains, Shadow Work will help you become the most well-rounded version of yourself!
The Journey to Wholeness and Personal Sovereignty is such an important aspect of magickal work. When we work regularly to confront and alchemize the Shadow aspects of ourselves, we can become the Light in the Shadows, leading ourselves on Our Personal Paths. It is within that process that we can also become great teachers to others, imparting our pearls of wisdom and Priestessing others onto their own Journeys to Wholeness and Personal Sovereignty! That is the beauty of the Balance of Shadow and Light, we can truly learn and teach in equal measure by following this Divine Path with our own Intuition. We are also granted this path through following the knowledge of the Goddesses, as much of this is rooted in the Divine Feminine Path, as well as rooted in Avalon, at least for me! Much of what I have discussed here is related to the ‘Shadow & Sovereignty’ card in The Avalonian Oracle by Jhenah Telyndru. The concept of this post is based not only on that card, but also on my own personal Journey to Wholeness and Personal Sovereignty, which I have been on for years, but which has become ever more powerful over the last year of my life. It is also why I felt that this was a perfect topic to discuss to end out my birthday weekend this year!
To finish out this post about Shadow and Light, I am going to be sharing some of the process of writing this post through inspiration and insights. Much of this post has been based on some thoughts that I have been meditating upon for the last several months. I want to share these meditative thoughts in case any of my readers would like to use them to gain deeper insights! These meditation thoughts are:
- Acting as a Light in the Shadows.
- Do not fear the Shadows for they are like the Depths of the Oceans, through which we can enter into the Otherworld.
- Walking into the Darkness is like walking into the Woodland following a dimly lit path to gain truth, insight, clarity, and wisdom!
I hope that you have enjoyed this short rumination about why balancing Shadow and Light is so important in our lives and in our magickal workings. What are some of your beliefs on the balancing of Shadow and Light? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
