Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings! Today’s post is a countdown of my top five favorite books written by and about Classic Rock Muses. They were the Groupies, Girlfriends, and Wives that inspired many of the songs we love. Without further ado, here’s the list!
Number 5: Let’s Spend the Night Together by Pamela Des Barres
~My number five pick is a collection of stories about several groupies and rock muses from the 1950s through the 1990s. It is really a collection of interviews performed by the famed Queen of the Groupies, Pamela Des Barres! I truly adored this look at several Classic Rock Muses over the course of decades.
Number 4: Angel’s Dance, Angel’s Die by Patricia Butler
~My number four pick is actually a dual biography of both Jim Morrison and his Cosmic Mate (to use the term Jim himself did), Pamela Courson. Pam was the most iconic muse to Jim, and by extension to The Doors as a whole, making this dual biography a great read for fans of that late ’60s band!
Number 3: Wonderful Tonight by Pattie Boyd
~My number three pick is the memoir by Pattie Boyd. She was one of the most important Rock Muses of the 1960s. Famously married to not one, but two Rock Legends, first George Harrison and later Eric Clapton! This memoir recounts the events of both relationships and is titled after one of several songs that she inspired!
Number 2: Faithfull by Marianne Faithfull
~Marianne Faithfull’s autobiography is my number two pick. Faithfull is both a Rock Muse and a singer and actress in her own right. Her story is one that is equal parts fascinating and tragic, but hopeful in that she overcame so many painful events! She is most famous for being the long-time girlfriend of Mick Jagger!
Number 1: I’m With The Band by Pamela Des Barres
~No other title could have taken the number one slot on this list! Anyone who is a fan of 1960s and 1970s Rock Music History will likely be familiar with this title. Pamela Des Barre’s famous and infamous tell-all about her time in the Groupie world of the 60s and 70s is a book that has both been praised for its honesty as well as reviled for telling so many secrets! Although she had several Rock Romances, she most famously, was in an intense relationship with Jimmy Page, which is recounted in this book, much to his disdain. For the actual content, as well as its controversial nature, this book is a must-read for those interested in Rock N’ Roll Muses!
