Decor to Soothe the Spirit

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darlings!    Today’s post is slightly different, but it is something that I thought would be an interesting subject to discuss.    I want to talk about home decor, but not in the overly curated and perfectionistic way that home magazines look at it.    I want to focus on building a home that is a place to feed the soul, soothe the spirit, and express our inner selves by surrounding ourselves with things that aesthetically please and align with our spiritual journey!    I want to look at this by basing it on three different types of spirit which I feel I possess and that my home reflects aspects of these spirits.

~ROMANTIC SPIRIT~

~The Romantic Spirit is the embracing of long-held desires and communion, with the deeper self, with a lover, with the Goddess, and with the Greater Spiritual World!    She is the Alchemical Goddess and the Aphrodite Archetype who desires nothing more than to be surrounded by beauty and to inspire people to the greatest of artistic achievements and carnal pleasures in equal measure.    She is also the Guinevere and Rhiannon archetypes, willing to risk anything for true love, showcasing love in many forms, love of the romantic side, and love of family and the land!    She is both the artist and muse, whose appreciation for classical art and literature brings beauty into the house.    Luxurious fabrics, sweet-smelling incense, and beautiful candles feed the Romantic Spirit!   Gothic Decor is actually related to the Romantic Spirit, as much of the best Gothic Literature is Romantic at its core, and I love that line between horror and romance!   This brings in a bit of the Shadow Queen and Faery Lover aspects of the Morgan le Fay archetype into the Romantic Spirit.    Slightly gloomy and misty Gothic Romance Literature often makes me feel very emotionally attuned and cozy in my body, which is a staple of the Romantic Spirit as well!

~FREE SPIRIT~

~The Free Spirit is wandering in the woodlands and nature!   She is the wild woman and mystic archetype that we see in the Artemis archetype.    She is also the free and loving Springtime Goddess we see within Persephone and Blodeuwedd archetypes in their maiden form, free and barefoot in fields of flowers having fun with handmaidens!    Even the darker side of Persephone and Blodeuwedd archetypes can be seen as free spirits, since it is by becoming Queen of the Underworld and an Owl Goddess, respectively, that each Goddess embraced her true Sovereignty and became fully free!   Ways to incorporate Free Spirit energy into your living space is by having plants and greenery around the home.    This can be real plants, or fake if you do not have a green thumb, but no matter what type of plant, it is a great way to bring the freedom of the wild woodland into your decor!   Given my love of both the Green Woodland and Shadowy lands of the Dead and Faery, I tend to use the greenery of the wild Free Spirit decor with a slightly gothic and shadowy edge.

~HEALING SPIRIT~

~The Healing Spirit is the caretaker and the nurturer, both of loved ones and of the self!    Self-healing, Self-love, and Self-soothing are all important aspects of the Healing Spirit, for if we do not care for ourselves first we will never be any good to anyone else!   It is the old adage that we must first fill our cups before we can nourish our creative endeavors!     She is the Healer Archetype we can see with Morgan le Fay in her Lady of Avalon and Leader of the Ninefold Sisterhood aspect.    She is also the archetype of healing love, which we see with the Iseult archetype, where love and the beloved can heal the wounded person!   Even Persephone in her Underworld Queen aspect can fit into the Healing Spirit archetype, as nurturing and caring for the newly Dead Souls was part of this domain.    Healing is not just for the living but also the Healing of the Soul, which brings in another Morgana aspect, that of the Psychopomp who is a Midwife of Death, nurturing the dying Arthur as she ferried him to Avalon after his final battle of Camlann!   Ways to incorporate the Healing Spirit into your home include having a large stock of herbs and herbal remedies to help soothe yourself and your loved ones, burning incense, playing music that soothes the soul, and making sure your home is protected energetically!   I know that these suggestions are more about ambiance than about actual decor, but I feel that setting the tone in the home is just as important as any other decor choice!

~I hope that you have enjoyed reading this somewhat different post that is about incorporating your inner spirit into your home, as much as it is about decoration.    How do you express your inner spiritual side in your home?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
