Color Magick

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darling readers!   Today’s post is another one about the power held within colors.    This time I am going to take it color by color which is deeply important to me!   This one will also focus on my personal magickal associations with each color.

PURPLE

~Purple is a color of royalty; therefore, it means Faery Queens to me.   This powerful color is one that I personally feel is intimately entwined with embracing our personal sovereignty of self.    Sovereignty is such a deeply important aspect of Celtic myth, Arthurian legends, and tales of Faery women in general, that linking the concept of sovereignty to this royal color makes it a very intense color indeed!

GREEN

~Green is a color of a style of magick as well as a color deeply associated with the Faery folk.   It is the color of the forests and of the wild natural world!    This color brings in the energy of the wildwood and helps us embrace the deeply healing energy of nature.   Whether the color conjures images of laying on a bed of lush grass or being protected by a copse of trees, Green holds a very free and nurturing energy.

WHITE
~Another Faery color, this one often associated with being the color of Faery animals sent as messengers to the human world.    We see this in the White Horse of Rhiannon, the Arthurian White Hart, and the White Hounds known as the Cwn Annwn, who are seen as pure white with blood-red ears.   White is also a color of purity and immortality!   This association with immortality and the Fae, is part of why I named this site after my favorite flower, the White Rose (although it was also a reference to the White Rose of York, given I knew I would write about history as well).

GOLD & SILVER

~These two colors are metallic colors that are associated with the sun and moon.   Embracing the solar and lunar energies is potent use for magickal practice.   Not to mention, I find metallic colors to feel very reminiscent of the Fae in my personal opinion, likely in part due to the Fae folk being associated with wealth and bestowing gifts.

RED

~Red is one of those colors with so much depth of magick within it.   Red is a color associated with the Faery realm, which is why we have stories of Faery hounds with blood-red ears.   Not to mention, both Merrows and Red Caps have red as a defining characteristic of their image.   Merrows are essentially Irish mermaids, known for having either red hats or red hair which if stolen would keep them bound to land.   Red Caps are dangerous Fae who are known to dye their signature caps in blood to make them red!   So we have both positive and negative Faery associations with this color.   Red is also simply the color of passion, fiery intensity, sexual allure, and romance!

BLACK

~Finally, there is Black, a very magickal color that cannot be overstated.   Black is the color of the unknown, the Feminine Divine, and Chaos.   If we look to the East with Yin and Yang symbology, the black is associated with the Feminine due to its mystery.   I think this is why we associate Black so deeply with magick in general, as it is a symbol of piercing the veil to learn about the esoteric mysteries!

~I hope that you have enjoyed these short overviews of my connection to these colors.    Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
