Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darling readers! Today’s post is all about Faery Magick and the path of Avalon.
PATH OF AVALON
~The Path of Avalon is a Path of the Goddess and a deeply Faery Path. Avalon is at her core a Faeryland of deep magick, and she is a Land of the Dead as much as a Land of Healing. We see this from the earliest literary reference to Avalon by Monmouth. He described a dying Arthur being brought to Avalon to be healed. This shows us both the Healing and Death natures of the land, as the healing of the wounded King was not a physical healing of his body that would allow him to return to rule Camelot. Instead, he is being healed spiritually in order to have peace living on Avalon until he will be able to rise again to help when his country is in its greatest peril. In an early iteration there is a reference to Arthur being married to Morgan on the Isle of Avalon in death, instead of having them as siblings. This adds another balance point between Morgan and Guinevere, who were both wives of Arthur in this variant of the mythos, one in life and one in death. Later, Morgan would become portrayed as Arthur’s half-sister and a healer by Chretien de Troyes, and eventually as a wicked Sorceress desiring the downfall of Camelot beginning with the Vulgate Cycle. But, she is always a Queen of Avalon in the end, there to collect Arthur as he lay dying to bring him to the Sacred Isle! Finally, the Path of Avalon is also the Priestess Path where one can learn the spiritual disciplines that Morgan and her Ninefold Sisterhood embodied for millennia on the Isle of Avalon! Remember that this Sacred Isle is ruled by Faery Queens and inhabited by Faery beings, souls of the Dead, and some believe even human souls who could live there for over a hundred years (according to Monmouth).
WATER MAGICK
~Water Magick is intimately connected to Faery Magick, as many Faery beings are Water Faeries. They range from Mermaids, Selkies, Merrows, Kelpies, and the Gwargedd Annwn, even to the Well Maidens. All of them are powerful Faery Women that can teach us to embody the majesty and healing power of water. Water Magick can be as simple as bath magick to release stress down the drain after having cleansed it off of your body, or even swimming in fresh or salt water to commune with the Water Faeries and Water Spirits. Drinking blessed water, or tea made with blessed water is another ideal way to incorporate Water Magick into practice. Finally, I will state that water gazing or scrying is a great divination tool within Water Magick.
GREEN MAGICK
~Green Magick is often associated with Faery Magick because the wild green world of the woodlands is ruled by many species of Faery Folk. Green Magick takes many forms, healing magick with herbalism, gardening ingredients for potions, making herbal and plant-based beauty products, and meditations and hikes within the Faery Forests. Even the act of Earthing, walking barefoot in the grass to ground into your most magickal and sovereign self is a prime aspect of Green Magick. Both Green Magick and Water Magick can be tapped into through yoga and dance, when we do elemental yoga or dance in ways that are associated with the elements, we are tapping into our innate connection to these elemental energies!
SHADOW MAGICK
~Ah, I have gotten to the Shadow Work section! Now, those who are regular readers here will know that I am a huge lover of Shadow Work, and therefore Shadow Magick. I believe that whether we approach this from a magickal or psychological perspective, this is a great tool for healing and empowerment! I will preface this by saying that not everyone is ready to delve into the Shadows, you need to be ready for the trauma that will be brought forth when you are doing this work. If you are ready to do the work, then it will hurt and be a difficult journey in the beginning. However, as you deepen into your Shadows and become more accustomed to confronting your traumas, it will become easier and, if you are like me, it may even become enjoyable. What I mean by enjoyable, is that the cathartic release of pent-up Shadow emotions and the crying it out in order to alchemize the pain into something new and powerful is emotional release that I love to feel! It is a beautiful release of trapped emotions that will allow me to better understand myself, my motivations, my own Shadow side, and even my own hidden powers. One of my favorite tools for Shadow Work is my Obsidian Mirror to scry with! All of this relates to Faery Magick because Faery is a misty realm of Shadows, and an Obsidian Mirror can help you heal the Shadow as well as with Astral travel to other realms, like those of Faery.
SEER, LOREKEEPER, ARTISAN
~This final section relates specifically to Jhenah Telyndru’s Sisterhood of Avalon tradition and The Ninefold Way of Avalon. The three Priestess paths that spoke to me deeply as soon as I read even just the names of them, were the Seer, the Lorekeeper, and the Artisan! Now, each of us can tap into all nine Priestess energies, but I fully believe that some of them resonate more with us in general, and other resonate more during phases of our lives. For me, these three are deeply resonating with me on a very visceral level, and have been part of my spiritual journey from the beginning, making them the core paths for me to follow! The Seer is an Oracle who works with predictions and with reading possible outcomes. This is obviously related to my journey reading Tarot and Oracle for myself and others, as well as my basic adoration of divination in general, not to mention my own propensity to have visions since I was a child. The Lorekeeper is a scholar and a researcher who studies and shares her learning as part of her spiritual path. I think my blog and YouTube channel exemplify this Lorekeeper energy! The Artisan is an artist and craftsperson who uses art in many ways as part of her spiritual path. This relates to all of the poetry I write and share here on White Rose of Avalon, the drawing and painting I love to do sometimes, my love of singing, and my love of dancing! I suggest that anyone interested in the Nine Paths read the works of Jhenah Telyndru!
