Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon my Darling readers! For today’s post, I have decided to do another post about spirit animals. Specifically, I want to focus on the idea of animals as messengers and guides, and why our core spirit animals appear to us in life, dreams, and meditations. I will do this by explaining my connections to my three most potent spirit animal guides. I want to have this post more focused than the other post I did on spirit animals, where I described more than just my top three spirit animals.
I will go over some ways these animals appear to me and what it means to me. I hope that by speaking about this, I will help my readers get to know what their own animal messengers may mean when they appear in their own lives! It must be remembered that messages that we receive spiritually are not something you can simply find the meaning of in a textbook. The way the animal makes you feel and what that animal means to you may differ from the average representation of that animal as an omen or guardian spirit! So, we must look deeper than simply this animal means this list of things and explore what that animal makes us feel. That is how we find out what this animal truly means when we meet them in life, meditation, and dreams!
I will go over each animal in a small section devoted to that animal. Without further ado, I will get into specific animals!
Cat: I have loved cats my whole life and have had pet cats in the home with me since I was born. My grandmother who lived with us growing up had a cat, then when her cat passed my parents got me my first cat when I was 16! She is a black cat named Sapphire, who still lives with my parents. When my husband and I got engaged, a cat came into our lives and home, as a co-worker had found her abandoned in an apartment, so that is how I got my cat, Harlow! The fact that she came into our lives only days after our engagement, after months of saying we wanted a cat, but not having a chance to find one at a shelter seemed auspicious, as kittens were given to new brides in Norse culture as blessings from the Goddess Freya! For me, cats are symbols of the beloved, the home, and cozy comfort, as well as more traditional associations with intelligence and protection. This means when I dream about cats, see cats in my daily life, or even have my own cat crawl into my lap during meditation, I get that loving homey cozy feeling, as well as a feeling of safety. While others may see cats as indifferent or anti-social, I find them to truly be symbols of love in its purest form!
Fox: Foxes are animals that I have a very intense connection with, especially since I first began meditating and searching for spirit animals, I often see a White Fox that I will follow through a forest during meditation. I remember mistaking the White Fox for a wolf at first, but then realized that the animal was far too small to be a wolf, and it made much more sense to have a Fox appear to me given that I felt a deeper connection to Foxes since childhood! The fact that the Fox that I see is always white is likely due to my deep connection to the Realms of Faery, as white animals are deeply connected to Faery. For me, Foxes appear in my meditations and dreams as true Guides. They are symbols of cleverness, cunning, beauty, and sexual allure! My deep connection to my body and sexuality, and even my healthy relationship with both, I feel is very much connected to my relationship with Foxes. While some only see Foxes as tricksters alone, I find them to be loving Guides into my psyche and into the Faery Realms even! This is fitting, as Faery can be a tricky place, and having a clever guide is important!
Crow/Raven: Ah, my beloved Crows and Ravens, essentially nearly the same bird only different sizes, but either way I have this intense bond with these Corvid birds! I see these feathered friends in my life constantly. Each time I walk to or from work, I see them frequently pretty much all year round. I saw them before and after a Faery Forest Adventure I took this past weekend, which felt like a blessing on my journey! While I know that many people see these birds as bad omens and even symbols of negativity in general, that is the farthest from my experiences with them. I find Crows and Ravens to be messengers of the Goddess, due to my deep bond with Morgan le Fay. Whenever I see them, I feel the black-winged embrace of the Goddess, supporting me and letting me know I am on the right track! Crows and Ravens are symbols of the Unconscious, the Psyche, and Knowledge. This is true even if people find them to be bad omens, as that is often a fear of the depths of the Shadows of our Psyche! They truly help to Guide and Guard my journey into my own Shadow and this is how I can alchemize pain into something new! So, my relationship with Crows and Ravens is one of feeling that they are my beloved friends and Guardians on my spiritual journey! I find that my relationship with Crows and Ravens best exemplifies my point that we must be open to interpreting animal messengers and guides based on what that animal means to us in particular.
~I hope that you have enjoyed reading my feelings about three of my closest animal messengers and guardians. Do you have a deep connection to any animals that make them feel like guardians or guides? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
